Geosyntec is the place for you!  We’re seeking a Regional Financial Manager for our South Region, preferably in our Kennesaw, Georgia office. This individual will assist the Regional Project Administrator with managing the daily activities of Project Administrators and ensures compliance with corporate finance and accounting practice and procedures. Works with Project Managers and Branch Managers to promote and administer sound financial hygiene related to projects including but not limited to invoicing, revenue recognition, work in progress, purchasing and accounts receivable. Work with the Regional Project Administrator and Branch Managers on special projects such as regional budgeting, proposals, client financial reports and analysis. Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Assist Managing Principal in developing regional plans for achievement of billing goals, rates, direct project costs, indirect cost and overhead, and profitability margin for professional services;
  • Assist Managing Principal with analysis and interpretation of operating results and their effect on regional operations;
  • Work with Department Managers, Project Managers and appropriate corporate staff to develop improved delivery systems for project accounting with the goal of improving financial performance;
  • Analyze financial data, develop custom reports to convey financial data and communicate performance indicators to operations managers, department heads, etc.;
  • Work with the Regional Project Administrator to oversee project initiation, billing and collection functions throughout the region to ensuring timeliness and accuracy in these functions;
  • Ensure PA staff meet monthly billing objectives and timelines;
  • Maintain contact with clients’ business offices to confirm timely receipt of invoices and supporting documentation and work with them to resolve problems so that the client can pay the invoice on a timely basis;
  • Manage, monitor, and implement corrective actions relative to expense items, accounts receivable, revenue recognition and work in progress;
  • Meet with project managers on projects with balances > 90 days past due to determine and resolve problems and develop collection strategy
  • Analyze monthly financial statements to identify trends and variances and work with Managing Principal to develop action plans and implement same;
  • Compile, analyze and present statistical information and reports to Project Directors and Project Managers related to measuring project performance against financial goals; recommend and implement actions to ensure results comply with objectives;
  • Establish and maintain systems whereby project managers update status, budgets and other project related data on a regular basis;
  • Collaborate with Corporate Finance and Accounting group to identify, develop and implement practices and procedures related to financial issues in a regional office;
  • Assist with training professional staff, project managers and contract administration staff on corporate accounting and project management policies and procedures;
  • Assist in the development of regional office annual budget;
  • Review financial performance against budget objectives; note variances and develop and implement corrective action when necessary;
  • Assist with accounting audits and project reviews on a regional basis;
  • Research and lead purchasing and negotiation efforts with regard to leases and capital purchases;
  • Take on special projects as required (e.g. budgeting/financial modeling for regional office expansions and accounting and business management projects.
  • Exhibit initiative to identify and solve problems pro-actively. Develop procedures and/or guidance focused on improved financial performance of the business unit.
  • Comply with the requirements of the company’s risk management program, remain alert to potential loss situations and bring to Managing Principal’s attention;
  • As appropriate, recruit staff with high potential and help develop individual career paths;
  • Mentor subordinate staff on compliance with policies and procedures, monitor compliance with same and correct performance deficiencies; and
  • Review performance and compensation of subordinate staff on a timely basis; obtain prompt approval of compensation increases for subordinate staff.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's in Business, Finance or Accounting with at least 8 years of progressive professional experience in the field, or MBA with at least 6 ½ years of progressive experience in discipline. Progressive professional experience includes performing increasingly complex and varied technical and project assignments in the fields of accounting, finance, budgeting, and prior experience supervising staff and internal/external client-relationship building experience, preferably in an engineering environment.
  • Prior Experience with ERP systems focusing on tracking and invoicing billable hours is required
  • Proficiency in Excel is required for managing budgets, financial analysis and daily reports needed by management
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex financial and accounting data, contracts and other business documents. (required)
  • Ability to respond effectively to difficult inquiries or complaints. (required)
  • Ability to author reports, presentations and correspondence that is well written and organized, clearly presented, focused on the subject at hand and appropriately describes assumptions and limitations applied to the document. (required)
  • Ability to make effective presentations on significant topics to senior management, internal/external clients and other stakeholders. Ability to communicate clearly and logically. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
