Job Description
  DescriptionYour Role at GEI.           GEI Consultants is seeking multiple biological field technicians in our Southern California offices to implement project work in the environmental consulting, and biological surveys, monitoring, and reporting on a Casual on Call basis.  This position requires an introductory level of skill and experience.  Projects will involve field labor, technical work, and/or monitoring of construction crews.            Essential Responsibilities & Duties       
  • Conduct plant/wildlife/habitat field surveys, biological literature research, mapping of biological resources, compliance with environmental regulations, and report writing.
  • Conduct habitat mapping and assessments and surveys for special-status species and other sensitive biological resources at numerous sites throughout Southern California.
  • Conduct worker environmental awareness training and biological construction monitoring.
  • Prepare survey reports, technical reports and/or permit applications, as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with construction crews, project personnel, and agency staff.
  • Technicians may be required to spend up to 1-4 nights per week out of town working at remote locations.
  • A typical work day consists of an 8-12-hour day with a 30-minute lunch, two ten-minute breaks, and includes irregular hours (30-55 hours per week) and irregular starting and quitting times, in accordance with the requirements of the assigned job.
Minimum Qualifications        
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences (Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Fisheries, Forestry) - or equivalent experience
  • Standard First Aid, CPR  are preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Driver's License
Desired Qualifications       
  • 2-3 years of experience in conducting biological surveys, impact analyses, wetland delineations, environmental permitting and/or similar activities for Southern California special-status plant and/or wildlife species, is preferred.
  • Strong writing skills, including experience writing biological technical studies.
  • Working knowledge of relevant environmental statutes and regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Game Code) and associated permits.
  • GPS/ArcPad experience is a plus
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented approach, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Excellent organization and communication skills and experience working independently and as part of a team.
