There has never been a better time to be a part of AtkinsRéalis!We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team in IselinNJ, New York City, NY, or Philadelphia, PA to lead and work on various structures projects with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA).About UsAtkinsRéalis is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering, and project management companies.   • Being a dedicated business builder who will utilize existing relationships to identify and pursue business opportunities as well as recruit top technical staff.
  • Serving clients on major projects, using a sound technical background, excellent communication and organizational skills and thorough knowledge and understanding of New Jersey design details and standards.
  • Maintaining relationships with clients, both public and private, as well as representatives of local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Working with leadership to promote design excellence, provide leadership and mentoring while driving the strategic plan for the office.
  • Leveraging existing and developing new NJDOT and NJTA relationships to identify and pursue business opportunities.
  • Playing a key role leading pursuits and supporting proposal development for NJDOT and NJTA.
  • Professional and project management expertise in the direction of highly unconventional projects requiring multiple technical units and/or subcontractors, heavy regulatory agency involvement, or highly complex technical requirements.
  • Serving as a mentor to less experienced peers to assist in their training and development.
  • Performing the essential project functions of production coordination, planning, organizing, directing, controlling, financial management and marketing.

Role Requirements?

  • Defines scope of projects, with full responsibility for interpreting, organizing and executing project assignments.
  • Selects problems for investigation, developing novel approaches and solutions to technical problems.
  • Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art methods and developments in structural engineering. .
  • Recommends changes or improvements to plans and programs.
  • Serve as a technical manager and/or project manager for projects; provides technical oversight.
  • . Responsibilities may include supporting the following: marketing/pursuits, negotiating contracts, budgeting, financial management, schedule coordination and resources allocation.
  • Designs and develops plans and drawings for bridges and other miscellaneous structures.
  • Performs such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.
  • Help support other offices within the region to fulfill current project needs while planning the future of our New Jersey business.
  • Engage with personnel by reviewing and evaluating workload, resource planning, project performance, and business development opportunities.
  • Assists project staff in developing work plans; reviews and approves schedules, budgets, project milestone dates, and work products.
  • Oversees financial performance of projects; assists project staff in identifying potential problems to ensure remedial actions are promptly taken to avoid financial losses and client dissatisfaction.
  • Conducts quality control checks, reviewing calculations, designs, evaluations and specifications developed by design staff for accuracy and completeness, performing on-site inspections and reviews, and conducting or overseeing remedial design work.

Education & Experience

  • B.S. in Engineering with a concentration in Structures is required.
  • M.S. in Engineering with a concentration in Structures is preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • New Jersey P.E. license required. PE license on other Northeast states is a plus.
  • SE License is preferred.
  • High proficiency of Structural Design of Highway Bridges and other highway-related structures is required.
  • Technical design, writing, computer, and communication skills are required.
  • Department of Transportation or New Jersey Turnpike experience is preferred.
  • Experience with other types of bridges (railroad, pedestrian, etc.) is a plus.
  • Intermediate proficiency of CAD is required.
  • Experience with MicroStation is preferred.
  • Experience with managing people, project scope, budget and schedule are a plus.
  • Extensive experience leading transportation design projects for the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, public speaking and persuasive ability.
  • Existing NJDOT and relationships preferred.
