Overview

We are seeking a Senior Ports & Marine Structural Engineer/Project Manager to join us in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Melbourne, or Tampa, Florida, or Houston, TX.AtkinsRéalis, one of the ENR top ranked firms for Ports and Marine Facilities, has a longstanding history in Florida and the rest of the nation with a portfolio of high‑profile ports and marine projects for clients such as Port Miami, Port Everglades and Port Canaveral.

Your role

Perform and lead planning, engineering analysis and design, and production of engineering drawings and specifications for ports, marine and coastal structures including docks, piers, wharves, bulkhead, mooring and breasting dolphins, trestles and shoreside platforms for deepwater cruise and cargo ports, liquid and dry bulk terminals, shipyard and other waterfront and marine infrastructure.

  • Perform inspection and condition assessment of ports and waterfront infrastructure.
  • Perform and supervise engineering analysis and design, lead development of construction plans, specifications and cost estimates.
  • Conduct data acquisition and analysis, researching the feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and/or regulatory agency specifications or regulations.
  • Work involves coordination, research and problem solving on a variety of engineering projects with unique or controversial problems, the solution of which has an important effect on major organization programs.
  • Work closely with designers, other discipline engineers and project manager as part of a multidisciplinary project delivery team. Interface with the clients, subconsultants and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensure that all structural engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards.
  • Ensure all project documentation and deliverables are reviewed in accordance with corporate QA/QC procedures.
  • Interact with contractors to p erform construction administration functions including shop drawing reviews, site visits and RFI response.
  • Prepare material for reports and permit applications, gathering information, preparing text and/or work progression documents, and graphic presentations.
  • Perform field observations of construction of structures such as port terminals, cruise terminals, and oil & gas platforms.
  • Participate in team growth and development by providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact on assigned projects and interface with the clients, subconsultants and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage multi‑disciplinary projects in collaboration with design task leads and cross‑disciplinary staff and subconsultants.
  • Develop and manage project management plans, schedules, and budgets. Actively manage the project risks, budget and schedule and provide routine update and progress reports to the client and the internal leadership.
  • Manage QA/QC processes on project deliverables to ensure all project documentation and deliverables are reviewed in accordance with corporate QA/QC procedures.
  • Prepare scopes of work and fee estimates for proposals.
  • Assist in client relationship management and business development.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support evolving business priorities.


About you

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering (minimum required), Master's Degree in Structural Engineering (preferred)
  • Must have 6+ years of experience in deepwater marine and waterfront infrastructure design, preferably with a consulting firm.
  • Experience with waterfront design codes and standards such as UFC, PIANC and ASCE/ COPRI.
  • Experience in structural design and analysis for waterfront and marine structures, including the use of concrete, steel, and timber structures.Experience in finite element analysis tools such as STAAD and/ or SAP2000.
  • Demonstrated leadership, and strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in analysis and design of shallow and deep foundation, piles and sheet pile wall bulkhead using analysis tools such as LPile, CWALSHT and DeepEx.
  • Experience in use of drafting software such as AutoCAD and/ or Revit.Experience with mooring analysis using Optimoor, Orca flex, or comparable commercial software, as well as with calculations for ship mooring and berthing forces, including wave force modelling for moored ships.
  • Domestic and international travel required 10% of the time.
  • P.E. License in Florida is required, or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire
