Job Description

Overview

WHPacific/NV5 is seeking a licensed professional civil engineer (PE) for our Development Services Group in our Albuquerque Office.  The preferred candidate will be licensed in New Mexico, or able to obtain a PE license in New Mexico, have a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering or related field, an academic record of related engineering courses, and a strong interest in general civil engineering and preferably experience and interests in public and private sector development projects.  The person in this position will work under the supervision of a senior engineer, and will have project design responsibilities, working with a design team, will provide daily management of infrastructure design, design reports, construction plans and contract documents, provide limited construction management and inspection services (with the assistant of our Construction Group) for public and private development projects. Infrastructure design and improvements include a wide range of expertise including business planning, pro-forma studies, site development engineering, land planning, site grading and drainage, roadway and highway design, water and water supply, wastewater, master storm drainage plans, minor structural, earthwork analysis, etc. Clientele include private and public entities.  Private clients include local developers, builders, for large master plan communities, subdivisions, commercial, and industrial clients.  In addition to private development public entities, including federal (Sandia National Labs, US Corps of Engineers) City (Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, etc.), other public entities (AMAFCA, SSCAFCA, Bernalillo County, ABCWUA) and many tribal entities and throughout the New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and Arizona area and many small communities throughout New Mexico.   The Development Services group also provide site civil engineer in support of our Architectural and MEP Group for their public and private clientele.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in advanced engineering planning for large infrastructure projects.
  • Assist in master planning efforts in support of community developments, large and small, including Land Use Plans (Masterplans, Sector Development Plans, Re-Zone Plans, Site Development Plans, etc.)
  • Plan and design support infrastructure to Master Planned communities such as Master Drainage Management Plans, Master Water Supply Plans, Master Wastewater Plans, Master Traffic and Transportation Plans, working with our Water Resources Group and Transportation Group.
  • On behalf of our clients, prepare, submit, and process Site Development Plans, Plats and Construction Documents thru the various agency Public Hearings and Plan Review processes
  • Oversee and provide modeling of surfaces using AutoCAD and other CAD products to design and model proposed conditions surfaces, and use surfaces to generated plan and profiles, sections views, earthwork quantities, etc.
  • On a limited basis, for minor roadway design, assist with detailed roadway corridor surface modeling and design.
  • Prepare of engineering reports and documents.
  • Lead with production of construction plans and specifications.
  • Prepare of quantity take-offs and tabulations.
  • Participate in professional organizations.

  • Knowledge of standard engineering techniques, reference materials, and design criteria
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D, MicroStation/InRoads, or similar CAD design tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Working knowledge of PowerPoint preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.  Abilit to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Ability to present project at public hearings and meetings.
  • Ability to adhere to an assigned work plan and manage time to complete tasks on schedule and budget
  • Availability to occasionally work overtime, including weekends, as needed
  • Availability for occasional overnight travel.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • 4 to 10 years of experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • New Mexico Professional Engineer License. Or can obtain within 6-months.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver’s License is required.
