Primary ResponsibilitiesHDR Engineering is currently seeking a Substation Civil/Structural EIT/Coordinator to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power professionals in our Ann Arbor, MI office. The primary duties of this position will be responsible for routine engineering assignments related to high voltage substation projects. The successful candidate for this position will be seeking knowledge and experience in:

  • Preparing civil, structural, and physical calculations and designs for upgrades and expansions of substations as well as “green field” new substation designs.
  • Preparing engineering of substation above & below grade physical designs.
  • Preparing grading, stormwater, and erosion control designs.
  • Participating in civil structural condition assessments and prepare reports.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 The candidate may also work independently on projects or with teams on larger projects as well as make recommendations to develop design options and assist in the preparation of engineering procedures and specifications 

Qualifications

 Required Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • EIT certification preferred. Candidate hired without their EIT will be given the title of "coordinator" and encouraged to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, or similar analytical software
  • Previous structural design experience (internship or full-time work experience) is a plus
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in performing all aspects of civil/structural engineering including technical calculations, performing field inspections, technical writing, and project management is a plus.
  • Experience performing steel structure retrofit/modification analyses is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).
  • Knowledge of structural analysis programs (STRUDL, RISA, REVIT Structural, RAM Structural System; Enercalc, LPILE, MFAD) preferred.
  • Must be capable of effective communication, work in a team-oriented manner and possess analytical and organizational skills.
  • Additional skills such as attention to accuracy, detail orientated, self-directed learning, meeting deadlines, and multi-tasking are also required. 
  • 3.0+ GPA
  • Previous structural design experience (internship or full-time work experience) is a plus
