You will provide editing and proofreading support for general and technical documents and will assist in coordinating workflow for the team. Periodic visits to an East Coast office will be required regardless of the usual work arrangement. Work hours will be aligned with the Washington, DC office.What You’ll Do:

  • Support team members by handling proofreading, editing, and formatting for the Company. Review technical engineering documents and business correspondence for clarity, coherence, and quality, collaborating with authors and subject matter experts to resolve any ambiguities or discrepancies in content. Work will primarily use Microsoft Word and may include PowerPoint, equations, and Excel tables.
  • Manage your own workflow and communicate with the team to help ensure coverage. The nature of the work requires prioritization of workload from engineers of diverse disciplines, some of whom have short turnaround requirements.
  • Maintain SGH’s high standards for quality in its documents throughout the firm and ensure adherence to the SGH Style Guide. 
  • Support the creation, distribution, and use of standardized templates. Assist administrative and technical staff with producing SGH-style documents and with features of Microsoft Word. Provide assistance and guidance to team in navigating software-related challenges. 
  • Communicate template usage guidelines through appropriate channels, such as emails, internal blog posts, internal seminars, etc.
  • Train newly hired editorial and technical employees on document formats and standards.

What You’ll Need:

  • 3+ years of writing, editing, and proofreading experience.
  • Quick learner regarding both company editorial practices and software applications.
  • Must be organized and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a calm, pleasant demeanor.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision, making independent, well-thought-out decisions.
  • Must have advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Equation Editor). Knowledge of macros and PDF software (Adobe, Bluebeam) is preferred.
  • B.A. in English or related field preferred. Familiarity with CMOS helpful.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with technical staff and clients.
  • Ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter.
  • Team player, highly collaborative, detail-oriented, and customer-focused.

Anticipated hourly base rate: $32.00 - $38.00. This range is a good-faith estimate provided pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law. The actual rate offered may vary from the range, as permitted by the California Equal Pay Transparency Law, and will be based on several factors including the candidate’s location, experience and qualifications, education, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry-leading Total Compensation package.
