  Geosyntec is growing and we are looking for an Environmental Engineer, Geologist, or Environmental Scientist for our groundwater remediation and environmental management practices in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office, who loves digging into the details of environmental assessment and remediation, due diligence, and environmental regulatory compliance. Our ideal candidate would have at least 5 years of experience on these types of projects. Learn more by visiting www.geosyntec.com.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESWe operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect that you’d work on challenging technical projects while leveraging your existing knowledge and experience to help Geosyntec expand its current practices and capabilities. You’d also be asked to take on project management responsibilities, along with business development, staff management, and mentoring tasks. Some of the key responsibilities for the position may include:

  • Project and task management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, client interaction, and adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Performing and managing contaminated site remedy evaluation, work plan development, geologic and hydrogeologic data evaluation, and report writing;
  • Data analysis, including preparing maps and figures using geographic information system (GIS) and/or environmental visualization software (EVS) applications, database management, and statistical analyses;
  • Providing environmental compliance services, such as compliance audits and reviews (multi-media);
  • Developing compliance documents and permit applications associated with the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Prepare for, participate in, and potentially facilitate meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties;
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, and proposals; and
  • At times, the job may also include fieldwork, including multi-media environmental sampling, sediment sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction oversight.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm.   • Fieldwork: Up to 25%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 25%

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, earth science (geology or hydrology), environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. (required) 
  • Advanced degree in geology or environmental engineering. (preferred) 
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E, P.G.) (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years of experience in an environmental consulting environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) 
  • An outstanding track record for client management and technical leadership. (preferred)
  • Project experience involving environmental regulatory compliance, site assessment, and remediation. (preferred)
  • Experience working on demanding, sophisticated, and legally sensitive projects. (preferred)
  • Detailed Federal and state regulatory knowledge, especially CAA, CWA, RCRA, and Pennsylvania Act 2. (preferred)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and related software. (required)
  • Experience with visualization and data management tools, including GIS software (e.g., ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro), Microsoft Access, Modflow, and/or EVS. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
