We are a growing multi-disciplined firm of professional engineers, environmental scientists, planners, and landscape architects headquartered in Syracuse, NY, with branch offices throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut and Maine. We are on the lookout for a bright, motivated Accounting Intern in Accounts Payable to join our team in our Syracuse, NY office working 10-20 hours per week. This internship could begin as early as this Fall 2025 and continue through next Spring 2026. Duties will include:- Assisting with invoice processing, verification, and entry into the accounting system;
- Reviewing supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance with company policies;
- Supporting vendor management by helping resolve invoice discrepancies and inquiries;
- Assisting in preparing payment runs and ensuring timely vendor payments;
- Helping maintain accurate AP records and filing systems (electronic and/or paper);
- Processing employee reimbursement requests, including verifying receipts, ensuring compliance with company travel & expense policies, and preparing reimbursements for payment;
- Responding to employee inquiries regarding reimbursement status and policy compliance;
- Comparing vendor invoices to subagreements to ensure billing accuracy and contract compliance;
- Reviewing vendor Certificates of Insurance (COIs) for compliance with company requirements;
- Maintaining & updating our Certificate of Insurance software;
- Assisting with month-end close activities, including accruals and reconciliations as needed;
- And supporting special projects and process improvement initiatives within Accounting & Finance.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Availability on Friday is required.
- Interest in building a career in accounting or finance.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Estimated Pay Range: $20-22/hour. Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
