GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. is seeking an experienced Ecologist at the mid or senior level to support our consistently growing Ecological Services team and Design with Nature Initiative primarily focused on projects in Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. The selected individual will be part of an interdisciplinary team working on a wide variety of exciting projects including but not limited to: ecological restoration, living shorelines, lake/pond/dam improvements, solar development, utility corridor upgrades, waterfront infrastructure, and general site redevelopment work. This person will participate in our Design with Nature (Design with Nature | GZA) initiative that focuses on the use of natural and nature-based features (NNBF) in the marine and freshwater environments. What You Will Be Doing:
- Perform routine and specialty field tasks including wetland delineation and evaluation, botanical surveys, soils investigations, wildlife and aquatic habitat evaluations, faunal surveys, site reconnaissance and explorations, sampling, inspections, GPS surveying, and construction observations.
- Prepare ecological design concept plans and drawings.
- Prepare reports and recommendations based upon field studies.
- Assess permit requirements and manage preparation of permit applications.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities.
What You Will Be Bringing:
- Bachelor’s degree in Soil Science/Biology/Ecology/Geography/Geology/Oceanography or related discipline required.
- Professional Wetland Science, Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner and/or CT Soils Science certification are a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in wetland delineation, natural resource evaluation, GPS data collection and ecological design and permitting.
- Experience in habitat restoration and permitting in nearshore coastal environments.
- Experience with CT, MA, and/or NY State environmental permitting as well as federal permitting.
- Experience with erosion and sedimentation control applications is a plus.
- OSHA 10-hour construction safety training is a plus but can be provided.
