Job Description

  We have an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Senior / Principal to join the Water Team in our London (Chancery Lane) office.  Our dynamic Chancery Lane office is situated in Central London, well served by tube, train and bus services and in the heart of the legal district.  From London we have specialist teams involved with various projects including water/hydrogeology, ground engineering, contaminated land, ecology, civil and structural engineering, transport, social and environmental.We are looking to expand the Water Team within the London office to meet current workloads and increase our team capacity to facilitate its continued success. Wardell Armstrong have a strong, established workstream and openings in new and exciting markets. Our Water Team provide water/hydrogeological expertise to a broad range of projects within the UK and overseas.  The role will involve working within the Water Team to help deliver a wide variety of exciting projects in the quarrying, landfill, construction and infrastructure sectors.In the UK, we support planning and environmental permit applications for diverse development types, as well as being involved in a wide variety of niche projects.  Recent projects have included environmental impact assessments for large scale renewables projects, support for environmental management of construction projects, abstraction licence applications, work for developments including groundwater conceptualisations, design and supervision of site investigations, water monitoring and risk assessment, and groundwater control and construction dewatering. We have an in-house team of water quality specialists who are undertaking a range of studies and provide technical advice for public and private sector clients. Our Water Team also undertakes work on overseas mine and infrastructure projects.  We have a number of major mine-water studies ongoing including numerical groundwater modelling, water balance and hydrogeochemistry projects for a variety of commodities and geographical locations.This is a great opportunity for a Senior / Principal to join our team in delivering work across the UK and assist in the development of new clients and commissions in the South East.A successful candidate would ideally have:

  • Experience in consultancy in the UK including project management and technical delivery of water / hydrogeological projects and an ability to deliver high quality work within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • Familiarity with UK regulations and legislation. Experience with Local Planning Authorities, Envionment Agency (EA) and Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) is advantageous.
  • Experience in providing written and financial input to tenders and proposal documents.
  • Experience in supporting, mentoring and training early career Environmental Scientists / Hydrogeologists.
  • Fully capable of representing the firm at both internal and external meetings, with a track record of client and stakeholder engagement and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of project managing water input into Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Experience of water / environment management for quarries, landfills and construction sites.
  • Field experience of different drilling techniques in a variety of geological settings, aquifer testing and collection of groundwater and surface water monitoring data.
  • Ability to design, develop, tender and manage groundwater drilling and monitoring programs.
  • Ability to develop hydrogeological and hydrological conceptual site models for a range of geological settings and facilities including quarries (surface and underground workings) and landfills.
  • Experience of delivering complex hydrogeological assessments and a working knowledge of hydrogeological software.
  • A relevant undergraduate degree and masters qualification in geology, environmental sciences, hydrogeology or similar.
  • Chartered or working towards chartership with a relevant institution such as the Geological Society.
  • CSCS card for safe working on construction sites.
  • A full UK driving licence
