Job Description

  We have an excellent opportunity for Senior Environmental Scientist to join our in-house water quality specialists. The role will involve working within the national Water Team to help deliver a wide variety of exciting projects in the quarrying, landfill, construction and infrastructure sectors. We are looking to grow the Water Team within the Stoke-on-Trent office to meet current workloads and expand our team capacity to facilitate its continued success. Wardell Armstrong have a strong, established workstream and openings in new and exciting markets. Our Water Team provide water quality expertise to a broad range of projects within the UK and overseas. In the UK, we support planning and environmental permit applications for diverse development types, as well as being involved in a wide variety of niche projects.  Our water quality specialists are undertaking a range of studies and provide technical advice for public and private sector clients.  Recent projects have included surface water monitoring for major construction projects, surface water pollution risk assessments, discharge permitting, risk assessments for effluent discharges to ground, nutrient neutrality assessments and technical support on nutrient pollution to the regulators.Our Water Team also undertakes abstraction licence applications, work for developments including groundwater conceptualisations, design and supervision of site investigations, groundwater monitoring and risk assessment, groundwater control and construction dewatering, and work on overseas mine and infrastructure projects.  We have a number of major mine-water studies ongoing including numerical groundwater modelling, water balance and hydrogeochemistry projects for a variety of commodities and geographical locations.As a key member of a small team, you would have multiple responsibilities and be exposed to a mix of UK-based fieldwork, data analysis, modelling and reporting activities.  For recruitment of more experienced candidates there will also be opportunities for project management and working closely with clients.A successful candidate would ideally have:

  • A relevant undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, or similar.Field experience of (or willingness to learn) the collection of surface water or groundwater samples.
  • Familiarity with water quality data.
  • Experience of managing large datasets.
  • Familiarity with GIS and ability to edit and develop geomatic materials.
  • Experience in consultancy in the UK is advantageous.
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to drive for business purposes.
