Job Description

  DescriptionYour role at GEI.  GEI Consultants is seeking multiple biological field technicians in our Sacramento office to implement project work in the environmental consulting, and biological surveys, monitoring, and reporting.  This position requires an introductory level of skill and experience.  Projects will involve field labor, technical work, and/or monitoring of construction crews.   Essential Responsibilities & Duties  

  • Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with mitigation/regulatory requirements.
  • Write and maintain daily monitoring and inspection logs.
  • Effectively communicate with construction crews, project personnel, and agency staff.
  • Conducting plant/wildlife/habitat field surveys, biological literature research, mapping of biological resources, compliance with environmental regulations, and report writing.
  • Conduct habitat mapping and assessments and surveys for special-status species and other sensitive biological resources at numerous sites throughout northern California and the Central Valley.
  • Conduct worker environmental awareness training and biological monitoring.
  • Perform preliminary desktop analysis, prepare technical reports, and assist with other deliverables as needed.

Minimum Qualifications  

  • One (1) to five (5) years of experience in conducting construction compliance monitoring, biological surveys, impact analyses, wetland delineations, environmental permitting and/or similar activities.
  • Bachelors or higher degree in botany, wildlife, biological sciences, environmental sciences, or a related field.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills and experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience conducting field surveys in the region and completing associated documentation.
  • Strong writing skills, including experience writing biological technical studies, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of relevant environmental statutes and regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Game Code) and associated permits.
  • A clean DMV record and compliance with company safety protocols and procedures are required.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required.
  • Experience with conducting surveys and monitoring for special-status species (e.g., giant garter snake, nesting birds, California red-legged frog) is preferred.

Desired Qualifications  

  • Standard First Aid, CPR, and Pesticide Applicator's License are preferred.
  • Ability to identify native and non-native plant and animal species.
  • GPS/ArcGIS experience is a plus.
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude, with the willingness and desire to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work well independently and with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office software.
  • Drive and operation of trucks with trailers, ATVs/UTVs tractors w/ attachments, skid steers, chainsaws, brush cutters, and small engines/pumps.
