Job Description

  Applied Technology and Management (ATM), a Geosyntec Company, is looking for an experienced Coastal Engineer to work on complex projects involving a variety of coastal related services, including beach nourishment; shoreline stabilization; dredge design; geotechnical investigations; hydrographic and bathymetric surveying, vulnerability assessments; environmental restoration and mitigation; and environmental impact assessments. Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Perform and oversee detailed coastal engineering analyses and designs;
  • Undertake the planning, analysis, design, and inspection of coastal projects including beach nourishment, shoreline stabilization, dredging, marina, environmental restoration, and mitigation, etc.;
  • Generate and recognize cost-effective and constructible technical solutions to engineering challenges;
  • Prioritize and accomplish multiple assignments efficiently and effectively with limited supervision;
  • Organize and interpret engineering data to prepare clear and concise engineering reports and technical documentation;
  • Write feasibility studies, technical reports, and construction specifications;
  • Manage the production of engineering plans and drawings;
  • Perform field investigations and construction support services;
  • Interact with client representatives;
  • Task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring; and
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, boater certification, defensive driving certification, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: may be required periodically.
  • Overnight travel: as projects require.

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or civil engineering, with emphasis on coastal or water resources. (required)
  • Advanced degree in coastal engineering or closely related field. (preferred)
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer license. (preferred) 

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 5 years of experience in coastal, municipal, or civil engineering with waterfront or coastal familiarity or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) 
  • Experience in relevant engineering software. (e.g., AutoCAD Civil3D, HydroCAD, SWMM, ArcGIS etc.). (required)
  • Possess strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional social skills and outstanding oral and written communication skills. (required)
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
