This is a senior, client-facing role.In this position, you will lead complex investigations across the seaport and waterfront built environment, marine infrastructure, industrial facilities, transportation systems, and high‑tech applications. You will play a key leadership role in growing and shaping a developing marine forensics business line, leveraging the Thornton Tomasetti platform while collaborating closely with a small team.You will be supported by a diverse, multidisciplinary team ranging from entry-level engineers to senior leadership, with the autonomy to manage projects, mentor staff, and drive client relationships.What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage marine forensic investigations involving vessels, ports, terminals, and waterfront infrastructure from site assessment through final reporting and testimony
- Serve as a senior technical and client-facing leader, working directly with attorneys, vessel owners, port and terminal operators, contractors, and insurance professionals
- Perform and oversee analyses including mooring, towing, and anchoring; hull damage and repair planning; dry dock, graving dock, and ship lift evaluations
- Conduct structural, material, and mechanical failure analyses, including root cause analysis, damage assessment, and equipment loss consulting and mitigation
- Independently manage projects while mentoring and supporting engineers within the Forensics practice
- Drive business development through conferences, industry events, and client relationships to expand the Texas marine forensics presence
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering or similar; Master’s degree in a related field preferred
- 12+ years of experience in the ocean, marine, or maritime engineering field
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in Ocean or Civil Engineering
- Demonstrated ability to bring or develop a book of business and contribute to practice growth
- Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, defensible reports that articulate engineering opinions supported by sound principles and facts
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, meet deadlines, and travel for short-duration site assignments as needed
