Description
GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking on-site Civil Engineering Technicians to support our geotechnical, dams and waterfront engineering and environmental consulting practices in our Norwood and Amesbury, Massachusetts offices.As a Field Engineering Technician, you will work on a wide variety of exciting and challenging projects. You will primarily work remotely at project site locations with periodic office and training duties. You will work in a close-knit group with seasoned professionals who will train and mentor you while helping you diversify your skill set and achieve your career goals. Our success relies on a strong collaborative environment. Between field work projects, you will work in a professional office setting located in either Amesbury or Norwood, preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, data analysis, and reporting. Key Responsibilities:- Perform field tasks and assist with the technical execution of projects.
- Field oversight and logging of subsurface explorations and classification of soil and bedrock in connection with foundation design and construction projects.
- Soil and groundwater sampling for geotechnical and environmental analyses.
- Concrete sampling and testing in accordance with ACI codes and project-specific requirements.
- Perform on-site construction oversight and inspections for deep and shallow foundation construction, ground improvement, and retaining wall construction.
- Perform in-place density testing of soils using either Troxler nuclear density, sand cone, and/or balloon test methods.
- Perform environmental sampling of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.
- Monitor environmental remediation.
- Gather data and other information to be used in the preparation of engineering deliverables.
- Prepare engineering inspection reports summarizing data collected in the field.
- Compile and organize data collected by others.
- Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.
- Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members.

- Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent education or experience in a related field is required.
- 0 - 5 years relevant experience.
- Highly motivated self-starter with a professional attitude.
- Strong attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills required.
- Ability to travel locally and occasional out-of-town travel will be required.
- Candidate must have valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License and consistent means of transportation to/from project sites.
- Candidates should have the ability to work outdoors in all seasons through various kinds of weather and lift and use field equipment required to perform job function.
- Prior geotechnical and/or environmental-related experience is a plus.
- 10-hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Training
- 40-hour HAZWOPER Training
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Certification
- Nuclear Gauge Operator Safety Training
- NETTCP for Concrete Technician, Subsurface Inspector, Soils & Aggregate Inspector, Driven Pile Inspector, Drilled Shaft Foundation Inspector.
- Massachusetts Title V Licensed System Inspector and Licensed Soil Evaluator
