Job Description

  Geosyntec is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services group in the San Francisco Bay Branch which includes offices in Oakland, Walnut Creek, and Davis. We seek candidates interested in a career in the geo-environmental field. You will provide construction quality assurance oversight related to a variety of environmental construction and remediation projects (for example: soil vapor and gas extraction projects; earthen embankments; sample and test soil, sediment, water, and air at construction projects); and provide field and office support to engineers for private and public sector clients. The role requires the ability to comprehend construction plans and specifications, a willingness to work outdoors and perform fieldwork, and travel including overnights, weekends & holidays.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor construction and/or environmental site activities under the supervision of a professional engineer or geologist to ensure work meets the contract documents (technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans);
  • Prepare daily and weekly field reports;
  • Interact with contractors, project managers, engineers, and clients including participation in meetings;
  • Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, groundwater, soil vapor, geosynthetics, aggregates, and other construction materials;
  • Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company's Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures;
  • Ensure project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy and procedures; and
  • Assist in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by Geosyntec. We also offer professional and technical development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, which allow our staff to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants. 
  • Fieldwork: Up to 90%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 90%

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). (required)
  • Apprenticeship program or verifiable experience in a construction trade (for example: earthwork, pipefitter, machinist, mechanical, concrete). (preferred)
  • Strong mathematical background with the ability to perform calculations in basic geometry and arithmetic. (required)
  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation, for business travel. (required)
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat software programs. (required)
  • Ability to be trained on the operation of industry-typical monitoring and data collection equipment, including but not limited laptop and handheld computers, Troxler moisture /density gauges, scales, and other equipment. (required)
  • Technical experience in construction services, geotechnical (for example: soils testing), environmental (for example: groundwater sampling), or related disciplines. (preferred)
  • 2 years of applicable experience. (preferred)
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, including survey and topographical drawings. (preferred)
  • Experience assuring field activities comply with construction plans and specifications and the ability to monitor several different types of activities simultaneously. (preferred)
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college. (preferred)

The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Based on state and federal requirements, this position may be hourly and overtime-eligible or salaried eligible for straight-time overtime. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Wage: $21.30/hour / Maximum Wage: $30.43/hour (Oakland, Walnut Creek, Davis)
