The Role:We have an opening in our Elko, Nevada office for a mid-level field/laboratory technician who is interested in a challenging technical position that also provides ongoing opportunities to learn. The successful candidate must be self-disciplined, motivated and be able to work solo and in a team environment. This position requires attention to detail and strong communication skills. This position may include extended field assignments which can mean long days, early mornings, and some office/laboratory work.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform geotechnical laboratory testing. Tests include but are not limited to: basic classification tests, (grain size, Atterberg Limits, specific gravity) and compaction tests (Proctor), and will include soils processing.
  • Perform field compaction testing using a densometer.
  • Perform concrete testing.
  • Work directly with project managers and keep them updated on work status, workload, problems, and progress as it relates to project assignments. 

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license is required, with a clean driving record. 
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask, balance workload and take directions from multiple clients.
  • Basic to intermediate math skills.
  • Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, when required.
  • Must be willing to travel and be out of town for extended periods, when required.
  • ACI certified a plus.
  • MSHA a plus.
  • Experience with soils testing a plus.
  • Field and laboratory experience a plus but not required. Training will be provided.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or EquivalentPhysical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move more than 100 pounds as a team lift.
  • Must be able to spend a majority of the day walking and doing inspections for several days in a row
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test

Work Environment: Work will be performed in a field setting and a geotechnical soils laboratory.
