Job Description
  DescriptionYour role at GEI. GEI Consultants is looking for an experienced coastal professional with a background in resilience planning, marine geology, and/or coastal engineering to join our Portland, Maine office. Primary responsibilities are to help lead, manage, and grow our coastal resilience and adaptation planning practice in Maine while addressing client needs and project-related opportunities. Other responsibilities include assisting with recruiting, training, and mentoring staff. This is an opportunity to support our existing coastal/waterfront practice and to build and grow the coastal planning practice in Maine and New England.   The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clients and a multidisciplinary team of GEI leaders and experts primarily on community resilience, sea level rise inundation mapping, beach and dune erosion, coastal GIS analysis, shoreline change analysis and mapping, beach and current monitoring and surveying, shoreline stabilization, living shorelines, and multi-benefit projects for public and private clients. This team leader will collaborate with scientific, hydrologic, and engineering staff across all professional and experience levels, support diversity and inclusion, and promote integration with other GEI practice areas. Specialty areas of practice include understanding coastal resilience, expertise in sea level rise planning, shoreline stabilization including living shorelines, assessing the vulnerability of built and natural environments to coastal hazards (i.e., coastal erosion, storm surge, and sea level rise), and experience with State, Federal and Local regulatory guidelines, rules, requirements, and permitting. The selected individual is anticipated to have a role in public process coordination for community planning studies.  Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • Be part of the Portland Maine coastal team engaging new and existing clients, and markets.
  • Generate and lead coastal resilience proposal efforts.
  • Maintain high visibility through regular client contact.
  • Participate in client-based professional organizations and present at industry events.
  • Prepare technical reports and provide in-house quality reviews for same.
  • Conduct site feasibility assessments and lead coastal resilience investigations. 
  • Lead community planning projects with a high level of client and public involvement including public presentations and facilitating engaging stakeholder participation.
  • Support the development of coastal protection and stabilization plans and oversee implementation.
  • Develop and direct regulatory compliance programs.
  • Manage projects to ensure project deliverables are accurate, on time, and within budget.
  • Partner with GEI colleagues, other project managers, and practice area leaders.
Qualifications 
  • 18 or more years of progressive experience in geologic and coastal sciences with ten plus years in a project/program management role.
  • Diverse technical background including significant expertise in area of specialty (i.e., geology, marine science, coastal science).
  • Post-secondary education in a field related to coastal impacts, resiliency, and adaptation, preferably in geology, climatology, geography, hydrology, and/or natural sciences.
  • Experienced in coastal surveying (e.g., RTK-GPS), bathymetric data collection, mapping, digital elevation model use and modification (e.g., LiDAR), and Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis and mapping.
  • Recognized for technical excellence and/or the development of client-focused, creative, and practical solutions.
  • Ability to access and develop new client relationships.
  • Expert knowledge of the latest coastal and climate science.
  • Experience in designing and facilitating workshops, webinars, and meetings of varying sizes.
  • Willingness to work outside of typical office hours, to attend occasional evening meetings/events and conferences.
  • Valid Driver’s License
