Job Description

  DescriptionYour role at GEI.    Our waterfront and coastal engineering group is seeking a Structural or Civil Engineer with relevant structural design experience.  The ideal candidate will have a background in structural engineering with experience in bridge, waterfront, heavy civil or infrastructure engineering. Previous experience of construction in or around water would be advantageous.  This position is expected to follow a hybrid model, with some time spent in the office mentoring junior engineering staff.  You will manage and perform various aspects of waterfront and coastal projects including marine terminals, port facilities, shipyards, recreational piers, harbors, marinas, and waterfront parks, as well as coastal revetment/retaining walls, shoreline improvements or restorations, and coastal resiliency or storm-hardening projects.    Essential Responsibilities & Duties    

  • Perform and manage a variety of waterfront engineering projects throughout the region.
  • Lead teams performing above and below water field inspection.
  • Serve as on-site representative to monitor construction activities.
  • Perform engineering analyses and design. Perform computations, prepare spreadsheets & construction cost estimates, prepare and edit drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Prepare written reports and client correspondence.
  • Assist in marketing and business development efforts including proposal preparation, client development, and networking.
  • Mentor, coach and develop junior staff.

Minimum Qualifications    

  • B.S and/or M.S. in Structural, Civil, or comparable Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience working on structural engineering design projects with steel and concrete design experience.
  • Experience leading field teams. 
  • Ability to travel for site visits / inspections, client meetings, and business development opportunities (to include overnight travel, as needed).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Candidate must have EIT and be actively seeking registration as professional engineer.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications    

  • Registered professional engineer in Massachusetts, or ability to obtain reciprocity in Massachusetts within 1 year of hire date.
  • Waterfront design experience.
  • Experience preparing scope of work and fee estimates
  • Experience with construction management
  • Small boat and/or SCUBA diving qualification with willingness to incorporate skills in workplace.
