GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking a Civil or Coastal Engineer to support the waterfront, civil and coastal engineering practice in GZA’s Oakbrook, IL, Brookfield and Milwaukee, WI offices. The ideal candidate for this position is a project staff engineer with a strong professional passion and interest toward Waterfront/Civil/Coastal Engineering projects, such as shoreline and beach protection, site development, coastal bluff slope and toe protection, dredging and various other coastal projects.As a Civil/Coastal Engineer, you will work with a staff of interrelated professionals dedicated to providing high-level expertise on complex coastal projects. You will successfully execute all aspects of projects under the guidance of a company Project Manager. You will also be responsible for both day-to-day execution of technical tasks of each project; prepare conceptual and final design plans as directed by the project team, complete data collection and perform field work as needed with some periodic travel (primarily in Wisconsin and Illinois) for survey, data collection and construction administration.The Civil/Coastal engineer will also provide assistance with other multi-disciplinary projects such as ecosystem restoration, living shorelines, water resources and site development, Design with Nature, harbor and waterfront developments. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and documented experience in one or several of these practice areas.Key Duties:

  • Preparing project plans utilizing Civil 3D
  • Assist with field data collection and other work as needed
  • Conducting technical analyses/calculations
  • General support tasks for a variety of projects
  • Complete data engineering analysis
  • GZA emphasizes a One Company environment, and as a member of our team, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a strong interest/focus in coastal and marine engineering; Master’s degree a plus
  • College course work in Coastal science and engineering preferred but not required
  • EIT or PE preferred or ability to obtain
  • Some regional local experience, regulatory knowledge and working relationships with the Illinois and Wisconsin business communities, and federal, state, and local agencies preferred
  • Some experience working on coastal permitting, design, construction, and shoreline maintenance projects, including construction plans, specifications, and cost estimating preferred but not required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and relevant technical software including AutoCAD Civil3D required
  • Basic or advance knowledge of survey and data post-processing preferred
  • Some knowledge of software used in support of water level and wave analysis, along with wave transformation and calculations for shoreline protection systems preferred but not required
