POSITION TITLE
Staff Structural Engineer - Construction Engineering Division

LOCATION
Albany, NY - Hybrid 
OVERVIEW
This position is a great opportunity for a Structural Engineer seeking to specialize in Steel Connections. The person in this role will be responsible for providing steel connection design on projects and interfacing with steel fabricators, detailers, and/or client engineers. They will provide additional support to the team by conducting structural analysis, design and detailing of buildings as needed.


TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist detailers in design/recommendation of fabricator preferred economical connections
• Be the interface between team and the client's engineer as it applies to connection design
• Review client's design drawings for opportunities to substitute more economical fabricator preferred connections and discuss with client
• Work with fellow connection design engineers with the ability to effectively collaborate in achieving project goals and deliverables.
• Manage multiple, parallel projects using formal project planning techniques
• Communicate progress towards production, financial, and quality
• Identify change orders
• Establish and maintain customer relationships
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Continuing education through certification programs, training, seminars, etc.
• Manage high demanding project schedules

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS NEEDED
• Perform structural analysis of various building systems comprised of structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and wood for both gravity and lateral loads. Understanding of glass and aluminum design is a plus.
• Design and detailing of high rise, low rise, commercial, residential institutional, governmental, and healthcare facilities
• Preparation of construction documents and calculation packages.
• Coordinate structural design details with architectural and MEP designs.
• Review shop drawings, RFI's, and perform site visits during the construction phase of a project.
• Work directly with McLaren project managers to ensure client satisfaction throughout the project duration.
• Assist in marketing company services at networking and industry related events. QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil/Structural) from an accredited university
• Minimum of 3 years design experience in the Structural Steel Industry
• Professional Engineer (PE) or pending
• Firm understanding of all basic AISC Steel Construction Manual (ASD and LRFD) design provisions and all related best practices of steel connection design
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
• Proficient in structural analysis software; such as, RISA, SAPP, and etc.
• Experience working with design codes and specifications
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
