Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Fieldwork, site investigation and characterization, including soil, surface water, soil vapor and groundwater sampling, drilling and contractor oversight, and remediation treatment system, construction, operation and maintenance;
  • Providing contamination assessment services, such as designing and implementing sampling plans, bench scale testing, and pilot test programs;
  • Groundwater and soil remedy evaluation, cost estimation, design calculations, and implementation;
  • Environmental due diligence, regulatory compliance services, and permitting;
  • Data management/analysis/visualization of site investigation data including the preparation of tables, maps, and figures using both industry-standard and cutting-edge applications;
  • Monitoring and oversight of site remediation and environmental construction projects;
  • Supporting fate and transport modeling, natural attenuation evaluations and risk assessment;
  • Preparation of written documents such as proposals, workplans and investigative reports; and
  • Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities.

  • Training: This position requires 40-hour OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by Geosyntec. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants. 
  • Fieldwork: 25-75%
  • Overnight travel: 25-50%

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology or environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in geology or environmental engineering. (preferred)
  • Engineer Intern certification. (preferred for engineering candidates)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior research experience in contaminated media or remediation technology. (preferred)
  • Prior internship experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • Experience with ArcView, Microsoft Access, Modflow, and/or EVS. (preferred) 
  • Excellent technical writing skills for environmental applications. (required)
  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Additional skills that would be an asset include:

  • Proficiency in open source GIS software (e.g. Google Earth, QGIS);
  • Familiarity with environmental analytical data;
  • Knowledge of basic statistics.    
  • Proficiency in cartographic techniques and best practices;
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, SQL, R, and Matlab;
  • Proficiency in web-based mapping applications;
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills and understanding of data quality control concepts;
  • Solid technical / analytical capabilities;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment to perform problem solving and develop solutions to meet project needs;
  • Strong time-management skills and schedule flexibility to accommodate project deadlines and deliverables; and
  • Ability to prioritize work and respond to overlapping project needs.
