Forklift Operator / Material Handler - Romeoville, IL

1st/2nd/3rd shifts available

$19/hr+

Job Description

This role focuses on safely operating forklifts and related material handling equipment to support shipping, receiving, production, and storage activities in a manufacturing environment. You will load and unload shipments, move and stage pallets, maintain accurate documentation, and support overall warehouse and production efficiency while adhering to safety and housekeeping standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document forklift inspections at the start of each shift and immediately report any required repairs to the logistics leadership team.
  • Load all outgoing shipments accurately and safely, ensuring all required shipping paperwork is completed and turned in to the office before the end of each shift.
  • Move pallets from the production area to designated shipping or drying areas in accordance with schedules and instructions.
  • Wrap, strap, and prepare pallets for shipment or storage as directed, including strapping and wrapping stock pallets in racks to ensure stability and safety.
  • Report completed work as finished, attach pallet tags correctly, and remove all pallets from the Arcomats in a timely manner.
  • Put away stock in the racks, scan items to their correct locations, and maintain accurate inventory placement.
  • Deliver packaging materials to the Acromat areas as required by the production schedule to support continuous production flow.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards by picking up garbage and bags from floors, emptying garbage containers, and sweeping floors daily before the end of each shift.
  • Notify the lead or supervisor of any tipped pallets in the racks or other safety concerns in the storage areas.
  • Work overtime or weekends when required and notified by management to meet production and customer needs.
  • Train new hires when requested, sharing best practices in forklift operation, material handling, and safety procedures.
  • Assist in the materials warehouse and perform other tasks or assignments within the scope of the business as directed by management.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts, including stand-up forklifts and reach trucks, in a fast-paced manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Hands-on experience with material handling, including pallet jack operation, loading, unloading, picking, packing, and order picking.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform shipping and receiving tasks, including loading and preparing outbound shipments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with team members and leadership.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accurate paperwork, correct pallet tagging, and precise inventory placement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and communicate with employees and management at all levels.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and follow production and shipping schedules.
  • Capability to follow safety procedures, complete equipment inspections, and promptly report issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial warehouse environment.
  • Comfort using scanning devices or systems to record and track inventory locations.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and assist in different areas such as materials warehouse and training new team members.
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including mid-shift and overnight, as business needs require.
  • Reliability and flexibility to work overtime and weekends when needed.

Work Environment

The position is based at a manufacturing site in Romeoville, Illinois, within a production and warehouse setting that operates multiple shifts. You will work around active production lines, storage racks, and shipping docks, regularly using forklifts (including stand-up and reach trucks), pallet jacks, and scanning equipment. Shifts may include 6:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., or 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., with specific openings on second shift shipping (2:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday with a Saturday/Sunday rotation), mid-shift material handling (10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with weekend schedule pending), third shift shipping (10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday with a Saturday/Sunday rotation), and third shift material handling (10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, with a 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. Sunday shift). Work hours may be adjusted as needed to meet company and customer requirements. The environment emphasizes cleanliness and safety, with daily housekeeping expectations such as sweeping floors, removing garbage, and maintaining clear, organized work areas.

Pay and Benefits


The pay range for this position is $40560.00 - $40560.00/yr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
