- Contribute to high-profile transit and multimodal transportation projects across Western Canada and nationally
- Work as part of the Transportation Planning and Design team under the direction of the Project Managers on a variety of transportation projects, including but not limited to Preliminary Design for Road and Transit projects, conceptual design, Transportation Master Plan studies, Transit Plans and Business Cases, Active Transportation Studies, Freight and Passenger Rail Planning Studies, and Complete Street Planning and Design.
- Act as a transportation engineer as needed, including preparing road alignments, cross-sections, active transportation design, grading models, drainage designs, quantity estimates, cost estimates, project documentation, and specifications
- Oversee the work of CAD Designers and EITs
- Coordinate with HDR’s multidisciplinary team including structural, traffic, pavement, environmental, stormwater management, electrical, etc.
- Undertake technical analysis to support a wide variety of transportation studies. Experience with design software, travel demand modelling software, and traffic analysis software considered a plus.
- Prepare work plans and schedules in coordination with project managers and other disciplines
- Work individually as well as within a team structure, effectively communication and corresponding with the team and clients.
- Assist in pursuit of opportunities and preparation of proposals (content generation, schedule, and fee estimates)
- Perform other duties as needed including mapping, data analytics, engagement, and drafting, using tools such as GIS Pro, PowerBI/Tableau, and AutoCAD or Autoturn are considered preferred assets.
- Be motivated to grow with the team, take on increasing responsibility, and contribute to the long-term success of our Western Canada practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years experience in Transportation Planning, Engineering, Highway and/or municipal roadway and transit design
- Strong conceptual, problem solving, and collaboration skills
- Ability to multitask while working on many projects at once
- Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
- Skills and experience in transportation planning and traffic engineering would be beneficial (e.g. GIS Pro, Synchro/SimTraffic, Aimsun, Vissim, Emme)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Hands-on experience with Highways and Roads CAD engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and Open Roads Designer and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d
- MS Office knowledge
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
