We are currently seeking a Senior Construction Manager to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a temporary, on-call position located in our Midlothian, VA office or virtually.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
- Accountable for a safe working environment, employment of safe work practices, and cultivation and acceptance of the corporate/client safety culture
- Ensure that safety is our first priority and integrated into all phases of work
- Ensure that project team has adequate safety resources (knowledge and equipment)
- Communicate Client safety expectations and requirements to project team
- Advise the team regarding Client needs, regulatory requirements, quality and risk management and identification
- Actively manage work to deliver project consistent with Client expectations and meets or exceeds project budgeted financial performance
- Provide input and directions regarding daily decisions related to safety, Site conditions, construction activities, materials, subcontractor issues, schedule, and staff-specific issues as necessary
- Engage and consult with the Engineer of Record (internal or external) regarding design changes, constructability issues, Request for Information (RFI) tracking and responses, submittal
- Engage and consult with Management regarding project matters as necessary
- Procurement
- Initiate Requisitions for purchases
- Negotiate terms and conditions with vendors and ensure Prime Agreement flow downs are incorporated within the accepted terms and conditions
- Align with project team on producing project documents with clear and concise scopes-of-work Compose and manage subcontract agreements
- Issue change orders as applicable
- Review vendor invoices, ensure valuation matches purchase, deliverables are acceptable, and agreed terms have been met
- Manage Project Financials
- Accountable for financial performance of the project
- Communicate to Client leader and operations manager cost margin, and if appropriate suggest and implement agreed to adjustments to improve margin
- Report Earned Value Management metrics including Estimate at Completion (EAC), Cost to Complete, Cost Performance Index, and Schedule Performance Index
- Perform analysis of calculated EAC against schedule for comparison check
- Adjust EAC as necessary and document the forecast
- Produce and submit timely, accurate, and contractually compliant Client invoices
- Manage Project Schedule
- Update proposal schedule and produce baseline
- Update project schedule weekly based upon previous week performance
- Utilize historical schedule versions for earned value and risk management analysis
- Manage Field Activities
- Review/advise on daily Plan of Day (POD)
- Check in as necessary with Site Construction Manager throughout each day to discuss the POD and daily progress
- Prioritize communication and management of field issues over administrative tasks
- Provide consultation or direction as necessary
- Communicate with Subcontractor project manager as necessary
- Review Daily Field Report (DFR)
- Provide Construction Manager with comments if applicable
- Utilize DFR information for Client compilation report
- Compile and distribute Client progress report with financial update on weekly basis, or at appropriate intervals in alignment with work progress
- Lead Weekly Project Status Conference
- Compose and update weekly agenda
- Proctor meeting promoting positive and efficient communication
- Review, edit, and approve minutes for publication
- Follow up on action items as necessary
- Participate in weekly Engineering Conference
- Ensure Engineering Team is aware of project issues
- Engage with Engineering Team to track and resolve issues
- Ensure quality assurance checks are being performed and documented
- Lead, advance, and manage change condition events
- Assemble appropriate stakeholders to participate in management plan development
- Assign action items and track progress
- Lead development of management plan deliverables
- Perform final assembly and distribution of plan deliverables
- Perform subcontract administrative duties
- Track subcontractor progress
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with project specifications through appropriate field tests and observations
- Engage with subcontractor to resolve issues (constructability, schedule, etc.)
- Advise subcontractor regarding future work planning
- Manage, resolve, and/or elevate subcontractor claims in accordance with agreement terms and in best manner possible for favorable Client outcome
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following: Engineering, Geology, Physical Science, or Construction Management
- 40-Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training (29 CFR 1910120)
- 10+ years of work experience in Engineering, Construction, and Project Management
- Demonstrated experience working with complex construction projects
- Working knowledge of project financial tracking and reporting
- Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and requirements
- Literacy in common computer software including MS Project or Primavera, MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Blue Beam
