Position Overview

A well‑established, employee‑owned engineering and design consulting firm is seeking a Civil Engineer or Project Manager for its Austin office. This role plays a key part in delivering high‑quality civil engineering solutions for public and private clients throughout Central Texas. The ideal candidate brings strong technical design capabilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage projects, clients, and junior staff in a collaborative team environment.

Primary Duties

  • Produce comprehensive, high‑quality civil engineering plans.
  • Execute design work involving:
    • Paving and grading
    • Roadway and transportation improvements
    • Water and wastewater systems
    • Drainage, water quality features, and detention/retention ponds
  • Prepare permit applications, engineering reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Utilize Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads (experience preferred but not required).
  • Work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Maintain strong organization, attention to detail, and documentation practices.
  • Clearly communicate engineering concepts in both verbal and written form.
  • Take on increasing responsibility and leadership opportunities when appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project planning activities and develop clear work plans.
  • Assign staff resources and manage production workflows.
  • Review project progress, budgets, and reporting metrics to ensure on‑schedule, profitable delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Support and participate in business development, including assisting with proposals, SOQs, and pursuit strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of win strategies for new opportunities.
  • Uphold internal quality management standards and ensure quality control processes are followed.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge and industry skills.
  • Assist in developing project scopes, preparing budgets, and monitoring project execution.
  • Ensure final deliverables meet client expectations, schedules, and budgets.
  • Support office growth by participating in sales goals and identifying opportunities with new or existing clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Licensed Texas PE, or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Proven experience designing civil site and infrastructure projects (roadways, grading, water/wastewater, drainage, detention, etc.).
  • Proficiency preparing permits, reports, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and technical writing skills.
  • Experience training and reviewing work of junior staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities.
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/OpenRoads (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated success in client interaction.
  • Ability and willingness to assume additional responsibilities when needed.
  • Interest or experience in business development activities.
