From facilities delivering life-saving therapies and ensuring clean water to enabling the connection of people through all modes of transportation and providing access to technology – we're integrating a multitude of these solution elements to build the smart environments of tomorrow. About the opportunity The Design Manager/Project Manager as part of Ports & Maritime in India will provide design management and project management leadership for the design & engineering of port and marine infrastructure projects. The candidate will lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams across geotechnical, structural, marine, and utilities disciplines. He/she will be expected to ensure on-time delivery of design packages aligned with project schedules and also coordinate closely with construction teams for seamless execution.The successful candidate shall possess knowledge and experience in:

  • Project management and resource planning 
  • Design management of various port infrastructure projects
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams and experience in delivering domestic and global projects.

Responsibilities as Design Manager

  • Responsible for the overall design/engineering/technical aspects of Jacobs projects.
  • Acts as Project Manager for smaller Jacobs projects
  • Works with: Designated Project Executives (DPE), Executive Director of Operations (EDO), Directors of Operations, Section Leaders, sales, other staff
  • Works with Project Manager to build the right team for the project – identifying right people/roles/resource levels for design requirements
  • Works with PM and others to understand client requirements for project Promote a culture of safety and quality to achieve best in class status within the market sector.
  • Manages and integrates all discipline/design team leaders
  • May need to manage 3rd party reviewers and independent verifiers
  • Manages/makes design decisions based on client requirements (and records all design decisions/agreements with client/JV partner on an ongoing basis).
  • Manages technical relationships with client
  • Maintains design change records and manages variations process
  • Supports discipline/design team leaders to make design decisions
  • Delivery to program: Balances competing requirements on project to deliver design outcome (e.g. cost v. time v. quality)
  • Determines when team should stop considering design options and start documenting design Issue documentation, oversee document control management
  • Approve design documentation for issue. Ensures caveats are noted where design documentation is not a full specification (e.g. have not been through a full external review process with end client)
  • Accountable for project’s Quality Plan
  • Manages review process and approval of design documentation
  • Understand commercial aspects of project
  • Participate in setting project budget/financials and managing these
  • Actively promotes Jacobs values within the organization.
  • Seeks to align goals and values with JV partner/client

 Responsibilities as Project Manager

  • Acts as the Project Manager for Tier 3/4 projects 
  • Proactively monitors projects
  • Ensure compliance with HSE and Quality 
  • Prepare monthly ETC forecasts and schedule updates 
  • Updates Workforce Planning monthly with ETC data (subject to agreed access) 
  • Prepare monthly invoicing (chasing Polaris actions, progress and trends) 
  • Proactively undertake the following Jacobs systems as required: 
    1. Develop CDRS and obtain approvals 
    2. Develop PIF and PAP and drive through the approvals 
    3. Polaris, OAR and RevRec activities and reporting (drive continuous improvement) 
    4. Pricing Tool and ETC updates 
    5. Subcontractor management - ProLog (register suppliers, raise POs and processes invoices) 
    6. Salesforce / B&P raising (subject to agreed access) 
    7. Document management 
  • Scheduling (primarily in MS Project)
  • Develops Quality Assurance and Inspection Plans 
  • Manages Safety in Design process on projects (with Client or JV partner as required)
  • Manages Risk Management process on projects (with Client or JV partner as required)
  • Assists in preparation of proposals 
  • Identifies and pursues opportunities for improving processes 
  • Assists portfolio managers with production of reports, chasing of DPEs and PMs 
  • Preparation and management of RFI registers 
  • Preparation and management of Deliverables registers 
  • Management of project risks and opportunities

Here's what you'll needAbout you

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil or related engineering is essential.  
  • Master’s degree with specialization in related engineering field will be preferred.  
  • About 10 to 15 years of experience after graduation/post-graduation in a project management/design management role. 
  • Good knowledge of international codes such as ACI, BS and EURO Codes along with knowledge of Indian codes.
  • Should have awareness of individual capability limitations and technical competence.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English is necessary.
  • Good communication skills are must.
  • Reliable engagement and integration with the teams, a trusted colleague 
  • Become an integrated part of the team
