Job Description

We remain focused on diversity, sustainability, and social accountability in the services we provide to our clients. BSC is currently seeking a qualified and energetic GIS/Remote Sensing Technician to join our Geomatics team. The successful candidate will assist in drafting and finalizing professional mapping documents for projects across New England. Other responsibilities may include field data collection and digitization, data analysis, and supporting database management. Candidates should possess strong communication and presentation skills and have the ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure and aggressive client schedules. A successful applicant for the position will possess the following background and skills:

  • Fundamental understanding of various remote sensing technologies and their general use. (Aerial and Terrestrial LiDAR, SLAMM, PhoDAR, GNSS, GNSS-RTK, and Multi-spectral imagery)
  • Fundamental understanding of spatial data accuracies, controlling them, and QAQC.
  • Experience with spatial data processing and drafting programs or a strong ability to pick up new software skills. (Register360, ReCap, PIX4D Mapper and Survey, Global Mapper)
  • Experience with the creation of, or working with, digitizing and data extraction from 3D point clouds.
  • Having, or willing to attain, an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to independently research and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D modeling in Revit is a plus.
  • Experience planning and performing sUAS flights is a plus.
  • Willingness to perform field data collection.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn and expand GIS/RS knowledge and skillsets
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Earth, etc.
  • Ability to think within the context of the total project while performing individual tasks.
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to self-manage while staying focused on project scope and budget requirements.
  • A working knowledge of the ESRI GIS desktop software suite (ArcGIS Pro 3.x, ArcMap 10.x)
  • Familiarity with the ArcGIS Online (AGOL) platform and its web applications (Field Maps, Survey123, Story Maps, Web Experiences). Examples of original candidate-developed AGOL applications are encouraged as part of the application for the position.
  • A strong understanding of GIS data principles, standards, concepts, coordinate systems, and data types
  • Experience designing, maintaining, and SQL querying geodatabases and GIS datasets
  • Familiarity with handheld GPS equipment (Trimble, EOS), and data dictionaries
  • Knowledge of ESRI ModelBuilder or Python programming is a plus
  • Graphic Design experience and familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite is a plus

The successful applicant will play a key role in a wide variety of energy, ecological, and public/private sector projects, providing detail-oriented GIS/RS support where required. Some travel within Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut may be necessary. A successful team member must:

Job Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree in GIS or Remote Sensing (or similar). Approximately 1 to 3 years of post-degree experience in a project-based environment. We understand each BSC team member is unique, as are definitions of work-life balance. Some of our team members are 100% remote and some enjoy an office environment.
