This OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for a Traffic Inspector to be based out of our New York, NY office. Be involved in projects with our Traffic Engineering Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. This traffic inspector will be assigned to the Nassau County Department of Public Works and provide inspection services for their Traffic Signals Division, taking part in examining and evaluating traffic signals and other transportation technologies on roadways throughout the County. Tasks may include routine maintenance inspections, gathering, organizing, and cataloging of signal equipment, collection of pertinent documents in response to inquiries from stakeholders, and assistance in billing operations for consultants. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.Your Impact

  • Conduct routine maintenance inspections for signalized intersections. 
  • Perform field construction inspections and provide detailed daily work reports for installation of traffic loop detectors.
  • Collect and refurbish existing traffic signal equipment.
  • Inventory and organize traffic signal equipment within the Nassau County Signal Shop warehouse.
  • Assemble requisite information, including plan sets, timing sheets, and sequence charts, in response to Freedom of Information (FOIL) requests for constituents and engineering firms.
  • Review billing claim requests for accuracy and input information onto appropriate spreadsheets.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exhibit basic knowledge of current field inspection practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.


Who You AreRequired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post education experience, at least 2+yrs in traffic signal inspection.
  • Ability to perform field inspections throughout Nassau County. Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet the client’s objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Ability to produce quality technical and professional reports and other deliverables related to field inspection tasks.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules as required by the client, conductive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • This position is contingent upon WSP being selected for a contract or program we are currently pursuing.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with NCDPW and familiarity with their standards and procedures.
  • Professional / industry certification.
