Position Purpose

The Senior Engineer is responsible to provide overall leadership and guidance on large and complex engineering projects.  Position ensures technical portion of projects are executed in-line with KLJ’s quality expectations and standards that ultimately deliver on our strategy of providing an exceptional client experience.  The candidate’s focus will be on many traffic engineering tasks, including traffic operations, corridor studies, traffic impact studies, and safety studies.

Essential Functions

  • Apply civil engineering principles and standards to perform and direct engineering tasks
  • Traffic Operations Analyses
  • Corridor Studies
  • Traffic Impact Studies
  • Design of, and the direction of the design of, project elements
    • Traffic Signals
    • Signing, Striping and Lighting
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control review to ensure compliance with KLJ quality standards
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings with stakeholders and clients
  • Instruct, train and mentor group members
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication

Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the completion of project tasks independently or in teams
  • Prepare, and review written reports and other documents
  • Assist with preparing for and facilitating public and/or client meetings with support from senior staff
  • Prepare project scopes, fees and schedules 
  • May market to existing or potential clients to obtain work
  • May be Engineer of Record for deliverables
  • Serve as technical lead on projects or tasks for large scale projects
  • Lead proposal and interview development with support from senior staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited post-secondary institution
  • PE is required
  • Demonstrated competency with markets, clients and projects of specific service offering
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles.

Preferences:

  • PTOE is desired
  • Post graduate degree in specialized field
  • Certifications in identified specialization
  • Project Management experience
  • Prior Engineering Consultant Experience                                   

Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week with 80% of the time spent in the office and 20% out of the office.
