Working environment

You work as a stability engineer (geotechnics) for infrastructure projects, from our office in Ghent or in Hasselt, within our Transport Infrastructure department, the department within Tractebel that mainly designs/studies projects related to roads, tram connections, airports, tunnels and bridges.  In addition to designing roads, designing sewer systems is a second important part, taking into account climate change and sustainable use of (rain)water.

• You participate in infrastructure projects for the design of highways, regional roads, roads in an urban environment, public spaces, tram and metro projects... in Belgium
• You contribute to the general quality improvement of the projects in the context of sustainability and environmental impact on the environment, not only in design, but also to minimize the impact during the implementation phase
• You work in a team and you are the driving force for the preparation of the tasks listed below:
•     Analysis of geotechnical properties based on on-line data
•     Targeted preparation of a geotechnical testing plan, if necessary taking into account guidelines from our customer
•     Interpretation of geotechnical investigations, recording necessary refinements in the context of damage-free work
•     Preparing and/or supervising settlement calculations
•     Drawing up and/or supervising strength calculations for pipes in various materials (in easypipe according to standard ATV127), as well as drawing up/supervising calculations in Plaxis
•     Advice/choice in the context of drainage, embankment, foundation
•     Drawing up and/or supervising drainage calculations (analytical) and directing and/or interpreting and/or drawing up drainage models (modflow)
•     Advising on drainage choice based on permits to be applied for
•     Providing targeted input in the field of drainage/artworks/implementation methodology in the permits
•     Developing total concepts for structures such as overflow structures, pumping stations, storage basins, etc.
•     Scenario analysis of construction pits/drainage/revetments/foundations based on final substantiated choices in consultation with the customer
•     Knowledge required of various embankments, drainage, foundation techniques; knowledge to make choices is not necessary to calculate each part in detail yourself
•     Advising the customer, including financial substantiation
•     Monitoring and supervising the site, focused on the stability and drainage topics discussed above, to substantiate and defend the choices made, feasibility
•     Advising yards on geotechnical implementation issues (yards type line routes with local structures)
•     Checking and assessing invoices drawn up by the yard
•     Checking and assessing similar tasks, if necessary, carried out by a subcontractor
•     Guiding younger colleagues in similar matters

Profile 

• You have a Master's degree in Industrial or Engineering Sciences (Industrial or Civil Engineer): Construction Engineering
• You are aware of recent developments in the area
• You have the ambition to innovate (methods and in the field itself)
• You have 10 years of experience
• You can express yourself fluently orally and in writing in Dutch and English. French is welcome
• You are stress-resistant and know how to keep your focus under pressure with a healthy dose of assertiveness and diplomacy 
• You are very strong in communication 
• Working in a team is natural and motivating for you (collaboration with other project/discipline members, with governments and stakeholders)
