SummaryWe are currently looking for a Structural Engineer for our Water business line. If you are a Structural Engineer who is ready for a change and is interested in working with a small, dynamic group of structural engineers and designers, then this is a great opportunity to provide solutions that inspire our employees, exceed client expectations, and create a legacy in our communities. This role will allow you to design the buildings and internal process structures for water and wastewater treatment facilities. A successful candidate is one who is looking to progress their career by leading structural projects. Typical designs include reinforced concrete structures and/or tanks (including water retention), masonry and/or precast concrete buildings, general analysis of existing buildings and facilities, and design of ancillary items required to support an overall project such as pipe supports, railings, platforms, catwalks, etc. You will be working alongside a group of knowledgeable structural engineers and designers with diverse backgrounds in an environment that fosters collaboration and development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Uses professional judgment to independently complete engineering tasks within federal, state, and local established criteria. 
  • Completes major design tasks that meet the needs of internal and external customers, primarily design of Water/Wastewater and Utility based projects, primarily with concrete, masonry, and steel design.
  • Ensures the accuracy of completed tasks using established HR Green QA/QC processes established for each project.
  • Monitors and proactively identifies or corrects technical, schedule or financial issues through effective communication with the Project Manager or other management staff. 
  • Assists the Client in bidding or contractor selection if authorized by the Project Manager.
  • Monitors construction and supervises field personnel assigned to a task, data collection or a specific project.
  • Responds to contractor questions and issues and prepares and issues project addenda as needed.
  • Recommends and prepares change orders, if authorized by the Project Manager.
  • May participate in preparation of engineering services proposals, including the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs of the proposed work. 
  • Signs and seals engineering documents as an authorized representative of the company.
  • Independently communicates on technical matters with the client.
  • Under the direction of the Project Manager, may assign and manage tasks and schedules to Staff Engineer (I/II) and non-exempt project team members.
  • Provides mentoring and/or technical leadership to less experienced staff in order to develop broad technical expertise for the organization within the engineer’s specialized discipline or functional area.
  • Participates in technical and professional associations related to their area of expertise.
  • May assist in business development efforts when their technical expertise is crucial to positioning the firm to win future work.


Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited four-year or graduate engineering university in a relevant discipline (civil w/ structural specialty, structural, architectural, etc.)  
  • Professionally registered (P.E.) in one or more states in which HR Green, Inc. conducts business (or ability to obtain such registration within six months of employment). A Structural Engineer License (S.E.) in the state of Illinois is a plus.
  • Possess 10 or more years of design/engineering experience and a demonstrated ability to act as an authorized agent of the company to sign engineering documents.
  • Project experience must include prior utilities or facility design and demonstrate progressive experience. Prior experience in Water/Wastewater is highly desirable and will be given priority (though not a requirement).
  • Project experience designing bridges and other DOT transportation structures is a plus due to sister business line crossover work.
  • Must be a member of at least one technical/ professional association related to their area of expertise.
  • Proficient knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Bluebeam, etc.).
  • Advance knowledge in office automation, CADD and engineering automation tools. AutoCAD, Civil3D and Revit preferred. 
  • Advance knowledge of structural design software and automation software for component design(Excel, Mathcad). RISA and STAAD experience preferred.
  • Must possess strong technical verbal and writing skills and be able to read technical literature and engineering plans.
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non-routine tasks and engineering activities.
  • The employee must be capable of driving/operating a motor vehicle for company business and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state of residence.
