Job Description

  Geosyntec is seeking an experienced Designer (AutoCAD Civil 3D) to support project needs remotely for our San Diego, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Arcadia, Costa Mesa, or Ventura, California office. The selected candidate will perform computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of civil and geotechnical engineering design projects. We are seeking a motivated individual who can develop layouts, grading plans and details for civil engineering projects, including landfills, industrial sites and utilities. Projects also include mechanical drawing systems and opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction.Our clients ask us to address their new ventures and most challenging problems involving the environment, natural resources, and civil infrastructure.   • Drafting, editing, and finalizing engineering design plans and details using appropriate and efficient methods and adhering to Geosyntec CADD standards;
  • Understanding and visualizing overall civil/geotechnical engineering concepts, such as grading, and translating abstract concepts to design drawings;
  • Analyzing sketches, notes and other input material to determine best approach to complete a drawing set;
  • Managing production of Civil 3D drawing sets from creation, markup and modification based on overall design specifications;
  • Assigning work to, mentoring, training, and supervising CADD operators in the preparation of design drawings and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality and accuracy;
  • Assisting with CADD department management tasks including estimating level of effort for CADD-related work; and assisting in the development of file management and CADD standards; and
  • Working collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality.

  • Associate’s Degree in Drafting and a minimum of five (5) years related experience in a professional civil engineering setting; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the responsibilities of the position. (required)
  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D (release 2020 or above). (required)
  • Experience developing and working with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, three-dimensional surfaces, and earthwork volumes for landfills and other large civil design projects. (required)
  • Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files. (required)
  • Experience with stormwater management plan design. (preferred)
  • Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills. (required)
  • Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D certification (or the ability to become certified within one year of hire date). (preferred)
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office applications, including Windows, Outlook, Word, and Excel. (required)
  • Experience with Autodesk Plant 3D, ArcGIS, and MicroStation. (prefered)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Wage: $32.00/hour / Maximum Wage: $52.00/hour (San Diego, Ventura)
  • Minimum Wage: $40.00/hour / Maximum Wage: $60.00/hour (Costa Mesa, Los Angeles, Long Beach, Arcadia)
