Job DescriptionGEI’s construction services are focused on effectively controlling safety, risk, cost, schedule, budget, and quality for efficient project delivery using the latest project management and construction implementation tools. GEI is seeking an experienced construction manager that knows and excels in that environment and is comfortable in an office environment when needed.  GEI is seeking a Construction Manager in our St. Louis, Missouri office to support our environmental consulting and engineering practice in the Midwest. The successful candidate will initially serve to prepare for then serve as the field construction manager for a 2-to-3-year environmental remediation project located in the St. Louis, Missouri area.Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Under supervision of senior staff, candidates will work with team leads locally and nationally on a variety of environmental and civil projects.
  • Manage and oversee contractors executing various remedial technologies for soil, groundwater and sediment remediation, demolition, and other construction activities. Remedial technology construction projects may include soil vapor extraction systems, in-situ thermal and chemical oxidation, excavation, caps/covers, sediment dredging and stabilization, and groundwater pump and treat systems. Other construction projects could involve decommissioning, regulated material abatement and demolition projects, installation of retainage systems (e.g., slurry walls, sheet walls), and other general civil site work (e.g., piping, electrical, PLC and HVAC installations).
  • Understand operation and maintenance activities associated with installed systems.
  • Prepare or assist in conceptual construction cost estimates, prepare bidding documents, requests for proposals, and assist in contractor procurement.
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability during design.
  • Review contractor submittals including equipment, Work Plans and QA/QC Plans.
  • Manage contractors and GEI onsite personnel for compliance with project designs, specifications, and contract requirements throughout construction.
  • Track payment applications, requests for information, change order requests and general construction phase submittals.
  • Monitor proper documentation of construction activities.
  • Review daily, weekly and monthly construction reports.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Interface with clients, government officials and other stakeholders.
  • Conduct project closeout activities including final inspections, completion of punch lists, and record drawings.
  • Maintain permits and training certificates.
  • Maintain and develop vendor and other professional contacts.
  • Participate in training events, project meetings, and construction/engineering team meetings.
  • Responsible for overall field safety including GEI personnel, contractors, and other onsite personnel.
  • This position has a field component. Travel to project sites, including overnight travel, is required. Candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions, year-round, and without restrictions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related degree.
  • Approximately 8-12 years of previous professional experience in construction management-related experience preferably in environmental remediation construction, decommissioning/demolition and/or civil type projects.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hr training in accordance with 29CFR1910.120
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 8-hr Site Supervisor training
  • OSHA 10 or 30-hr Construction Safety training
  • Understanding of means and methods associated with remediation technologies, demolition, civil type work, CSI specifications, and construction drawings.
  • General understanding of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Strong fundamental math skills.
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and organizational abilities.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with MS Office Suite - especially Teams, Word, and Excel. 
  • Must be willing and able to travel on short-term and long-term assignments as needed.
  • Must hold a valid U.S. Driver’s license and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) upon hire.
  • Due to client requirements for anticipated projects, candidate must be willing to submit to and pass random drug screenings.
