As an Intern / Water Resources in our Oak Brook, or Chicago, IL office, you will have the opportunity to apply your engineering (civil, geotechnical, environmental, and water resources) academic knowledge to real-world situations while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. We are seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) intern for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the summer of 2024. Preferred candidates would have the ability to return to the position for up to two additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office.Our clients ask us to address their new ventures and most challenging problems involving the environment, natural resources, and civil infrastructure.   • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams of colleagues, clients, and stakeholders on a wide variety of water resource projects;
  • Hydrologic and pollutant load modeling of watersheds and stormwater infrastructure;
  • Hydrology and hydraulics [engineering calculations and modeling] of open channels and stream systems, including floodplain modeling;
  • Assistance for permitting and regulatory compliance;
  • Statistical data assessments and data visualization; and
  • Potential for fieldwork such as soil and groundwater sampling, stormwater inspections

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • Currently registered in a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD. university degree program in a relevant engineering discipline. (required)
  • Degree focus area in water resources engineering. (required)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with data assessments using software such as Microsoft Excel or programming languages such as R or Python. (preferred)
  • Experience with Arc GIS. (required)
  • Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, and problem-solving skills. (required)
  • Experience with relevant modeling software including EPA-SWMM and HEC-HMS. (preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork and travel. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record to drive to project sites. (preferred)
