We are seeking a qualified Early Career Structural Engineer to help grow our national Geostructural and Construction Engineering practice and contribute to innovative and challenging projects in Chicago or Oak Brook, IL.  As a member of our growing and dynamic practice, you will be asked to apply your knowledge of structural engineering to series of technically diverse and unique construction projects involving; heavy-civil construction, vertical and horizontal building structures, erection and controlled demolition engineering, earth retaining structures, foundations, dams and containment structures, and unconventional structures, while learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. Our clients ask us to address their new ventures and most challenging problems involving the environment, natural resources, and civil infrastructure.  Ranked by ENR in the top 20 design firms for the environment, Geosyntec is internationally known for its technical leadership, broad experience, and exceptional client service.  Learn more by visiting www.geosyntec.com  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis is a position that involves diverse structural engineering project experiences across multiple sectors of the civil engineering and construction industry. Some of the key responsibilities for the position include:

  • Structural value engineering, design review, and constructability review;
  • Development of structural loads using building codes, standards, and recommended practice documents;
  • Foundation design including pile caps, mats, footings, and substructures;
  • Analysis and design of structural steel and reinforced concrete structures;
  • Analysis and design of underground structures and excavation support systems;
  • Modeling, analysis, design, and detailing of unconventional structures;
  • Design of temporary structures, shoring/reshoring, formwork;
  • Erection engineering and global stability analysis, controlled demolition;
  • Conducting precondition surveys and construction inspections; and
  • Preparing technical documents including reports, calculation packages, CAD drawings, and construction specifications

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 50%
  • Overnight travel: Up to 40%

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering focus. (required)
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural). (preferred)
  • Successful completion of the 8-hour NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous work experience in a structural design environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the design and detailing of structural steel, connections, and reinforced concrete. (required)
  • Knowledge of relevant structural engineering design and detailing software (RISA, ETABS, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, GSA, etc.). (required)
  • Knowledge of design collaboration software (Bluebeam Studio), and operation of CAD/VDC/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.). (preferred)
  • Knowledge of general numerical modeling tools. (preferred)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, and meeting strict deadlines. (required)
  • Current OSHA 10-hr training. (preferred)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
