Job Description

Summary/Objective EnviroSmart is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator who will also operate in a field technician capacity.  Knowledge, experience and training required for the safe operation of excavators, tracked loaders, bulldozers and various other pieces of equipment.  Other responsibilities of this position may include, but are  not limited to, assistance on hand digging, sample collection and various other “labor” related tasks. Essential Functions

  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in a safe manner at all times. Adheres to and ensures constant compliance with Health & Safety Compliance and regulations
  • Maintaining satisfactory customer service
  • Operating of heavy equipment on various environmental remediation projects
  • Capable of wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing duties (respiratory protection may be required, and satisfactory results of a pulmonary function test are required)
  • Operate light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, excavators, loaders, forklifts, pumps, vacuum, equipment, oil spill boom, generators, bobcats, tractors, mowers, etc
  • Equipment and vehicle inspections, and Health & Safety inspections
    • Performing safety inspections as required by DOT, OSHA or other governing body. Ensures proper use of equipment and immediately notifies supervisor of any mechanical failures or problems with equipment
    • Completion of associated paperwork, including but not limited to daily worksheets, work tickets, and maintaining daily inventory of tools, fittings, accessories, consumable items and hose connections, etc
  • Performing emergency response activities including, but not limited to, chemical and water spills, etiological and biological contamination, tank cleaning, equipment decontamination, etc
  • Capable of quick and immediate response/communications to the direct supervisor and home office
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management and required by the needs of the Company

Certifications/Training/ Licensure 

  • 40 hour Hazwoper (preferred) – training provided
  • CDL (preferred but not required)

Required Eligibility Qualifications

  • 2 - 5 years related construction or environmental remediation experience
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation of heavy equipment including dump trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, excavators, scrapers and skid steers
  • High School diploma or GED preferred but not required
  • Valid Driver’s License and Clean driving record
  • Must be able to pass the medical clearance to wear a Respirator
  • Must be able to pass Drug Screen, Physical and background check
  • Must be able to lift 50 - 75 lbs frequently

Physical DemandsMust be able to:

  • Work in atmospheres and locations with the potential for exposure to various chemical and physical agents, some of which may be hazardous, toxic or corrosive.
  • Work in potentially elevated noise levels, confined spaces, including lifting in areas of low clearance. 
  • Engage in strenuous physical labor including lifting, pulling and pushing heavy objects.
  • Wear and properly use a variety of Levels A, B, C & D personal protective Equipment (PPE) including respirators, skin, face, hand and foot protection in a multiple number of combinations.
  • Work at elevations, climbs ladders, scaffolding and into/out of trucks, tanks, and various other containers.
  • Work extended (> 8 hrs.) time periods.
    • **Note that in emergency response situations these periods can extend beyond 8 hours, up to 12-24 hrs.; Because of the emergency response and operational nature of the position, a continuing condition of employment is that the applicant/candidate acknowledges and agrees to be on-call and on occasion will be required to work on week-ends and/or holidays.

  • Dependent on the contract requirements

Travel

  • 30-60% on a yearly basis – dependent on contract requirements

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities
