Job Description

  Geosyntec is seeking an experienced Site Manager for Earthwork, Landfill, and Remedial Construction in support of our New England geo-environmental practice.  The selected individual will serve as an integral part of our team ensuring our projects are completed safely and successfully. Project work is expected to be primarily in Maine with additional assignments in Massachusetts and New Hampshire with the potential for other projects across the country. Applicants should have technical understanding and experience with construction quality assurance for various earthwork, landfill, and remedial construction projects.  This includes experience with in-place density and moisture testing methods including nuclear, drive cylinder, and sand cone.  You should be able to identify soils based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS).  Experience with the installation of geosynthetics and remedial construction is preferred.  Ability to read and understand design drawings and specifications, and work with contractors is essential.Our clients ask us to address their new ventures and most challenging problems involving the environment, natural resources, and civil infrastructure.   • Monitor activities on job sites to ensure compliance with relevant contract documents (e.g. technical specifications, construction drawings, sampling plans, CQA plans);
  • Perform in-place moisture-density testing to verify project compaction requirements are met;
  • Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction;
  • Provide periodic monitoring of multiple active construction sites;
  • Prepare daily field reports, weekly field reports, & progress reports;
  • Ensure project documentation is prepared and distributed correctly and consistent with company and project policy & procedures;
  • Interact with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
  • Observe and abide by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures;
  • Oversee drilling, logging of borings, and instrumentation installation; and
  • Perform tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, instrumentation, and monitoring, as needed.

You will work closely with experienced professionals who will guide and integrate you into Geosyntec’s culture. Here are some other things you should know about this position:

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, radiation safety (for a portable gauge), first aid, CPR training, and medical monitoring.  These will be paid for by the firm.
  • Fieldwork: Up to 100 %
  • Overnight travel: Up to 100%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • High school diploma or GED. (required)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects. (preferred)
  • Certifications from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) in Materials Testing, US Corps of Engineers construction quality management, or Geosynthetic Certification Institute – Inspectors Certification Program (GCI-ICP) for Geosynthetic and Compacted Clay Liner Material. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 8 years of applicable experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Technical understanding of site investigation, construction quality assurance, and/or construction management procedures for solid waste facility or environmental remediation projects. (required)
  • Ability to monitor several different types of construction and environmental activities simultaneously. (required)
  • Experience with installation and monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation. (preferred)
  • Previous project oversight background and knowledge of CPM software. (preferred)
  • Experience with Windows based software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, etc.). (required)
  • Competent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 49-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. (required)
  • Strong willingness to work outdoors with interest in building a career in the environmental consulting field. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be self-motivated, and possess a strong work ethic. (required)
  • A U.S. valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
