  Geosyntec is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician to join our teams in Austin, Texas, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The successful candidate will assist with sample collection of diverse materials including, but not limited to, soil, sediment, water, and air for environmental tests; provide neat, accurate, and comprehensive documentation of all field-related activities to senior level project personnel; and provide additional field and office support to scientists and engineers for a diverse private and public sector client base.   • Assisting with biological and ecological resource studies including wildlife habitat assessments, listed threatened and endangered species assessments, native and invasive plant vegetation surveys, wetland mitigation monitoring, and cultural field assessments;
  • Assisting with identification of jurisdictional wetlands, classification and delineation of wetlands and streams, and assessing mitigation requirements to support the environmental permitting of infrastructure projects;
  • Performing multi-media sampling in support of investigations, monitoring programs, and other data collection centric projects;
  • Assisting with preparation of Clean Water Act Sections 10, 404, and 401 permit applications, as well as Section 408 from the US Army Corps of Engineers and Coastal Use Permits from state regulatory agencies;
  • Assisting with preparation of environmental plans, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and securing National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit coverage;
  • Assisting with preparation of environmental documents for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) including, environmental resource reports, Environmental Assessments (EA) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS);
  • Conducting environmental inspections for compliance with permit conditions including NPDES stormwater compliance, wetlands permits, navigable waters permits, and other state and federal environmental regulations including Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) environmental regulations;
  • Conducting permit-related site inspections and collecting environmental samples from a variety of media; Assist in the preparation of the final data packages, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;
  • Assuring project documentation is correct and consistent with company policy & procedures;
  • Interacting with project personnel (contractors, project managers, engineers & clients) and assist in cultivating an integrated team approach through open lines of communications and participation in work progress meetings;
  • Assisting in the preparation of the final reports, work plans, health and safety documents, and the assembly of report appendices;
  • Observing and abiding by the policies and procedures outlined in the site-specific project health and safety plans and the company’s Environmental Health and Safety Management policies and procedures; and
  • Performing tasks in other company practice areas including general construction services, environmental sampling, contractor oversight, or construction quality assurance activities, as needed.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional and technical development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our staff to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
  • Fieldwork: 50-80%
  • Overnight travel: 30-65%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). (required)
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in science, construction management, engineering, physical science, environmental science, or related subjects. (preferred)

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 4 years of applicable experience with a High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience (Associate’s degree plus 2 years or Bachelor’s degree). (required)
  • Strong knowledge of native flora and fauna of the southeastern U.S. (preferred)
  • Prior internship experience in environmental consulting. (preferred)
  • Experience with Federal permitting programs such as the Clean Water Act, and the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 404 wetland permitting process. (preferred)
  • Experience with multi-media sampling including soil, water, and air. (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word software programs. (required)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, and strong work ethic. (required)
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unaided and 50-100 pounds with assistance and/or proper engineering controls. (required)
  • Ability to speak and hear, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and reliable transportation, for business travel. (required)
