Primary Job Responsibilities: The Construction Project Manager has responsibility for safety, technical, contractual, budget and schedule activities on medium to large transit and/or highway and bridge projects.  The project manager may have responsibility for management and contract performance across multiple disciplines or projects.  The successful candidate will be a self starter, an excellent communicator, and have proven experience performing most, or all of, the below duties:


Performing the Duties of the Onsite Construction Project Manager

·         May serve as Resident Engineer or site leader on medium or large transit or transportation projects ensuring safety, quality, budget, and schedule requirements are achieved

·         Monitors project budgets, financial commitments and expenditures

·         Assist in finding cost-effective solutions to construction issues

·         Manages dispute resolution (including preparation of position papers)

·         Perform complex schedule and claim analysis

·         Supervise project personnel and assign duties to them and provides as needed training

·         Performs constructability and bidability reviews

·         Manage the contract change order process

·         Manage project in accordance with RE Manual and Facility Standards

·         Daily management of project staff

·         Oversee field inspection

·         Provide daily supervision and direction to project staff

·         Oversee project administration / project controls

·         Conducts pre-construction meeting

·         Conducts weekly progress meetings with contractor

·         Maintains cash flow projections for construction contract including contingency, bid item overruns and CCO’s

·         Generates, negotiates, recommends Contract Changes to Client

·         Prepare weekly statement of working days

·         Review monthly Progress Schedule

·         Review 3-week “look ahead” schedule / short interval schedule

·         Review/Approve Daily Inspection Reports (DIR’s)

·         Review monthly quantity calculations

·         Review / approves submittals and pay estimates

·         Responds to RFI’s

·         Coordinates approvals of shop drawings with Designer

·         Coordinate field-testing for roadway work activities through and monitor results.

·         Issue NCR’s for deficient tests

·         Evaluation, negotiation, and preparation of draft contract change orders

·         Assists with Claims mitigation and evaluation

·         Manages sub-consultants work and reviews their invoices

·         Attends Project Status meetings with Client

·         Assist in preparation of Monthly Report and other reports as directed by CM.


Performing duties as a “Seller- Doer” in Construction Management


·         Actively participates in professional organizations and other networking venues to advance Jacobs’ relationships and business development

·         Participate in strategy sessions

·         Attend prospective client and project stakeholder meetings

·         Lead or assist proposal efforts


·         Lead or participate on interview teams




  • This position requires a minimum of 10 years experience as a Project Manager
  • This position requires a minimum of 15 years total experience in the construction industry
  • 10 years experience managing track and rail projects is desirable
  • A BS degree in engineering or related field is required.  An  MS degree is desirable
  • A California PE is highly desirable
  • Working in operating environment is required
  • BART, Caltrans or other similar public agency experience is required
