Job Description
HDL Engineering Consultants is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Services Manager to lead, develop, and grow our Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Testing groups in Alaska. This is a senior leadership role for a geotechnical professional who excels at building teams, setting technical direction, and driving service performance while remaining engaged in meaningful engineering work.
Position Overview
The Geotechnical Services Manager has primary responsibility for the leadership, performance, and growth of HDL’s Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Testing services. This role combines people leadership, technical oversight, client engagement, and operational management.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and manage Geotechnical Engineering and Materials Testing teams
· Establish technical standards and quality control practices
· Plan and manage department workload and staffing
· Recruit, mentor, and develop staff
· Serve as a senior technical and client-facing leader
· Develop proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates
· Manage utilization, billing, collections, and profitability
· Identify and manage project risks
Required Qualifications
· Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (Alaska PE preferred)
· Minimum 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
· Proven leadership and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Arctic and subarctic design experience
· Deep foundation and pile design experience
· Borrow and quarry source investigation experience
· Familiarity with construction materials testing
Work Environment
Combination of office and field work with travel throughout Alaska. Field work may involve inclement weather and physical demands including lifting up to 60 pounds.
