Summary

The Construction Manager coordinates projects with revenue of $3MM or greater and works with highly complex plan preparation. Makes decisions and leads other Construction Technicians and Construction Engineers. Keeps the Project Manager informed of the contractor’s progress, schedule problems, and any plan changes. Ensures the Client’s desired final product is produced. Manages staff of 2-12 field personnel including sub- consultants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads organized and thorough constructability and ‘Red Team” reviews of design plans.
  • Manages the HR Green budget and schedule. Identifies and documents out of scope work and recommends appropriateness of contract supplements to supervisors.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and that construction schedules are adhered to.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and dictates inspection duties for assigned project including sub-consultants.
  • Develops proposals and detailed project scopes and participates in plan preparation.
  • Makes most field decisions as a matter of routine while keeping supervisors informed.
  • Is recognized as a technical expert in construction management by subordinates, peers, and supervisors.
  • Champions the goals of the client with internal team members and external parties.
  • Seeks opportunities to engage clients in organized events.
  • Maintains interest in renewing existing work and cross selling additional services within various HR Green Business Lines and is regularly asked to do more work while working on client engagements.
  • Increases construction market share/clientele via the performance of his/her team and by advocating for the ability of the HR Green Construction Practice and its staff.
  • Effectively updates key stakeholders on the health of the project.
  • Assists in formal training sessions for construction staff.
  • Creates and uses a system for accountability to make good performance visible and establishes a basis to provide supervisors with accurate and timely performance assessments of project staff.
  • Communicates new industry requirements, federal specification changes, updated forms etc. with supervisors and entire HR Green Construction staff

 Education and Experience

  • 15 years prior experience with onsite supervision/management of construction projects, including work with highly complex construction plans is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree is required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of technical and office support software required to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Strong written and oral communication, technical, and team building skills are required.
  • Must have the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in one or more states in which HR Green conducts business is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of residence and a reliable means of transportation to travel for company business.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain) for extended periods of time and stand for 8 to 12 hours per day. This work requires standing on uneven terrain. Employees must also be able to and lift a minimum of 30 lbs. (concrete cylinders), sit, walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands or arms. Hand eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and other office equipment as required.
