With more than 750 employees in nine office locations throughout the United States, SGH’s industry-leading teams constantly seek to advance the meaning of what’s possible.We want someone passionate about geostructural engineering and people management.Our Oakland, CA Marine Division is looking for a Sr. Project Manager who will be part of our team providing a wide array of geotechnical and geostructural engineering services for marine and waterfront structures, including investigation, repair, and rehabilitation deteriorated or underperforming structures, as well as new design of constructed works.What You'll Be Doing:The Marine Division provides structural engineering services with emphasis on new design, repair and rehabilitation of constructed works, and investigation and performance evaluation of a variety of structures and materials. Essential duties include performing a wide range of geotechnical engineering analysis and design tasks for marine and waterfront structures; Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a large and important engineering project or a number of small projects with many complex features, leveraging other core staff within the firm. A strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn is essential to this position. Typical project work includes:
- Leading and directing geotechnical and subsurface field investigations to assist in design of new structures or rehabilitation of existing structures.
- Analyses and design of subsurface components of waterfront structures that include bulkheads, deep and shallow foundations, ground improvement systems, earth retaining structures, and excavation support systems.
- Evaluating geotechnical impacts from new construction on existing adjacent structures.
- Performing analyses related to soil settlement, slope stability, soil dynamics, and groundwater flow and seepage.
- Evaluating earthen embankments/dams/reservoirs, tunnels, and asphalt and concrete pavements.
- Performing analyses and forensic evaluations of failed or degraded structures.
- Supporting construction operations for contractors, including new construction, rehabilitation, strengthening, and repair.
- Analyzing claims in design-build projects
What You’ll Need:
- 12+ years of relevant structural engineering experience and expertise in a relevant field.
- Professional Licensure required.
- MS or PhD with a concentration in Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Demonstrated excellent technical, professional capabilities, and experience with complex geotechnical or geostructural design and analysis.
- Excellent technical reputation within your area of expertise.
- Demonstrated record of independently managing and directing challenging major projects.
- Prominent involvement within academia or an industry organization such as AASHTO, ASCE GeoInstitute, Deep Foundations Institute, or other active geotechnical organization, including working on committees, making presentations, authoring articles, or other active participation.
- High ethical standards and honesty; able and willing to represent SGH well.
- Ability to work well with others within and across disciplines, including resolving differences of opinion and conflict in an appropriate and tactful manner.
- High level of oral communication skills, with polished presentations and effective communication.
- Commitment to assignments, co-workers, high quality, and safety standards.
- Expertise in computer analysis software (e.g., GEOSLOPE Suite, Slide, Plaxis, LPILEplus, CIVILTech Shoring, DeepEX, Settle3D, etc.)
- Willingness to travel to out-of-state project sites on occasion and ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report

Compensation Anticipated annual base salary: $123,240 - $176,800. This range is a good faith estimate pursuant to applicable equal pay and pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications and work location. Base salary is a part of SGH’s industry leading Total Compensation package. Our Total Compensation package includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual discretionary bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with a special emphasis on substantial SGH contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH’s Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
