We approach problems with creativity and innovation. Schnabel is seeking a temporary full-time intern with a Civil Engineering background to support our growing business. The emphasis for this position is broadening the intern’s practical knowledge and experience by applying professional principles to real problems under the supervision of senior engineering personnel. This position will work with senior personnel in both the Dams and Geoprofessional business units. The position will be held from May through August of 2025.Job Responsibilities:
- Assisting in performing general design related to dams and geostructural work, including hydrology and hydraulic, reinforced concrete, and global and local stability of retaining walls and slopes
- Create and modify basic plans, figures, and documents using AutoCAD and Bluebeam PDF
- Performing geotechnical field work including observing geotechnical subsurface exploration and performing infiltration testing
- Performing construction observation and materials testing
- Assist with instrumentation infrastructure setup and maintenance
- Providing support to engineers on preparing proposals and reports
- Some travel may be required
Required Skills/Experience:
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program is preferred. Enrollment in other college engineering or relevant science programs may be considered.
- Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field is desirable but not required
- Possess good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
- Ability to work with direction as part of a team
- Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work
- Desire and willingness to work outdoors at undeveloped sites and construction sites
- Ability to routinely lift up to 40 pounds
Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment screening.
The compensation range for a Civil Engineering Intern is between $17.00 to $24.20. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
