This OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Lead Geotechnical Engineer, to join our global Mining Team reporting to our Lakewood, CO or Madison, WI office. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic mining team with clients in the US and internationally. Our ideal candidate has a background in geotechnical/civil engineering in the mining industry. Your Impact

  • Responsible for delivering civil and geotechnical design projects to WSP’s mining clients
  • Plan, supervise and lead civil/geotechnical site investigations
  • Become an engineer of record of tailings storage facilities
  • Oversight of project delivery including scope, budget, schedule, and resource management
  • Managing and coordinating project teams, including ensuring the technical quality of deliverables
  • Perform and review / oversee geotechnical engineering analyses
  • Recognize and initiate business development opportunities and recruiting opportunities. 
  • Lead and/or assist with the coordination, development and production of proposals, SOQs and presentations
  • Travel to domestic and international mine sites with approximately 15% travel.
  • Provide peer review and support of technical design projects. 
  • Mentor and develop staff of engineering professionals.   
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably with mining projects
  • Currently registered or immediately on a path to PE registration within the first 2 years
  • Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil mechanics
  • Understanding the mine waste management lifecycle from design to operations to closure
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Tailings Storage Facility and Heap Leach Facility design
    • Foundations
    • Earth dams and levees
  • Project Management skills including scheduling and budgeting 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of professionals at various stages of their career
  • Demonstrated technical excellence in geotechnical engineering, including the following specifics: material characterization, seepage, slope stability, liquefaction assessment, deformation modeling, and seismic hazard impacts. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office and slope stability programs (e.g., GeoStudio and/or RocScience) required. Familiarity with gINT, FLAC or PLAXIS and other latest geotechnical design software strongly preferred.
  • Practical understanding of drilling methods, field investigations, and laboratory testing procedures
  • Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, writing, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Superior time management, planning and ability to interact with clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English 
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in the US and internationally. Approximately 15% overnight travel.
  • Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Geotechnical Engineering 
  • Previously held position as Engineer of Record or Repsonsible Tailings Storage Facility Engineer of a Tailings Storage Facility

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $111, 200 - $198,220WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
