Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Intern / Co-Op – Civil / Environmental Engineering in our Richmond, Virginia office. The position offers the opportunity to apply engineering (civil, land development design, and hydrologic & hydraulic analysis) academic knowledge to real-world situations while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. The position is full-time (40 hours/week) for approximately 13 to 15 weeks during the winter semester of 2024 or spring/summer semester of 2025. Preferred candidates would have the ability to return to the position for up to two additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with engineering calculations using computer-based technical tools;
- Develop construction documents (plans), technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, specifications, and proposals;
- Data input and analysis, including preparing site plans, GIS mapping, tables, and figures;
- Follow instructions and interact with engineers, geologists, office administrative staff, CADD operators (draftsmen), contractors and construction personnel; and
- Potential for limited fieldwork such as site evaluations, soil and groundwater sampling, stormwater inspections, and drilling and contractor oversight; and
- Local travel or driving to project sites as needed.
Education and Licensure
- Currently registered in a Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree program in a relevant engineering discipline. (required)
- Upper division (e.g. senior) or Master’s enrollment. (preferred)
- Degree focus area in civil engineering as it relates to land development design, hydrology and transportation (preferred). Concentrations in environmental or water resources engineering are helpful.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Experience with CADD (AutoDesk, Civil 3D, and Bentley Microstation), ArcView, HydroCAD, Bentley Flowmaster and/or Microsoft Office. (preferred)
- Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills. (required)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory driving record for business travel to project sites. (required)
