Job Description

  Mott MacDonald is a multi-disciplined engineering and advisory consultancy, with a significant presence in the West Coast transportation and infrastructure and water/wastewater realm. We work on some of the largest projects in the world. As a result of our continued and sustained growth, we are now looking to hire a technical principal engineer to our Geotechnics Practice to support our current and future infrastructure projects in Puget Sound and throughout Mott MacDonald’s West Unit.  
 This will be a strategic lead development role in our Pacific Northwest Division based in our Seattle office. Your title will be Principal Project Manager or Senior Project Manager, depending on experience level.  
 The technical skills for geotechnical leadership include geotechnical design and oversight of the following areas of geotechnical design and consulting: energy, pipelines, bridges/highways/pavements, dams, excavations, tunnels, water and wastewater, ports and wharf facilities, built environment, retaining structures in soil/rock, and other infrastructure projects. Responsibilities will include: 
 

  • Management and delivery of geotechnical investigations, analyses, consulting reporting, and design evaluations of transport, water, energy, built environment, and advisory business sectors. 
  • Build internal and external client relationships with other engineering disciplines and project managers, and clients in the business sectors  
  • Lead proposal efforts and compile geotechnical proposals for ground investigation services  
  • Manage subconsultants and subcontractors to provide geotechnical investigation services including drillers, utility locators, surveyors, traffic control, and geotechnical laboratories 
  • Manage a team of geotechnical engineers to deliver geotechnical investigations, geoseismic evaluations, geotechnical numerical modeling, and hydrogeological services 
  • Interaction with our global practice community to coordinate geotechnical delivery in the West Unit market  
  • Participation and engagement with the geotechnical community in the local area. 
  • Long-term development and supervision of a team of staff to augment Mott MacDonald’s global capacity in geotechnical design and consulting delivery. 
     

Mott MacDonald's experience in infrastructure projects dates to the early 1900s. Our team of professionals provides cost-effective and innovative engineering solutions for North American infrastructure with unprecedented success. We are looking for a qualified professional to join our team to continue this and invite applications from candidates with the following qualifications: 
 

  • Master’s degree in civil or geotechnical engineering (Bachelor’s considered);  
  • Strong interpersonal skills, record of client engagement to deliver the geotechnical design and consulting, and ability to communicate results to a diverse audience that may comprise a non-geotechnical audience, technically-oriented clients, other geotechnical practitioners and geotechnical researchers.  
  • Professional engineer (PE) license in Washington or ability to obtain one within 3 months; 
  • 15 years of experience in geotechnical consultancy (not including education); 
  • Proficient use of geotechnical software (e.g. Plaxis, GRP/BREXIS, GeoStudio packages/Slide, Ensoft packages); 
  • Proven track record in geotechnical design; and, 
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
