Job Description:Schnabel Engineering is seeking an entry level Staff Geoprofessional Engineer to help support our regional and national practice. This position is located in our Nashville, TN office. We are looking for a motivated individuals with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team. This individual will assist with both Geotechnical and Geostructural projects.Our Geotechnical & Geostructural groups provide a broad range of consulting services including subsurface investigations, soil and rock analyses, development of geotechnical design and construction recommendations, development of construction documents (plans and specifications), detailed design, value engineering, construction-phase engineering, and forensics. We routinely provide our services for various types of projects related to transportation, flood control, power/energy, and industrial facilities. Our services include subsurface characterization, development of geotechnical recommendations for design and construction, design of support of excavation (SOE) systems, underpinning of structures, geo-hazards and stabilization of natural and man-made slopes and other earth systems/structures, marine and waterfront structures, steel and concrete design, ground improvement, shallow and deep foundation systems, earth retaining structures, grouting programs, design and oversight of positive cutoff walls, dewatering systems, cofferdams, and numerical analysis. Analytics play a crucial role in geotechnical and geostructural engineering projects by providing insights into soil behavior, structural performance, and overall project feasibility.Job Responsibilities:
- Conducting geotechnical field investigations, including soil sampling and drilling
- Soil and rock analysis that determines suitability for construction projects, including laboratory testing and the interpretation of geotechnical data
- Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports and development of geotechnical recommendations
- Preparation of calculations to support geotechnical recommendations or geostructural designs.
- Preparation drawings (sketches) using AutoCAD and/or MicroStation and providing design support during construction.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions
- Observe geotechnical/geostructural related construction and prepare daily observation reports to ensure adherence to detailed plans and specifications
- Provide support on preparation of reports and proposals
- Ability to travel and work in the field is required
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- 0-3 years of professional experience
- EIT certification or the ability to get one within 6 months of hire
- Excellent oral and written communication skills used to interact with other key stakeholders by preparing technical reports and documenting observations and findings
- Positive attitude that enhances problem solving, team collaboration, and a growth mindset
- Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement with confidence and enthusiasm
- Effective time management, with the ability to efficiently balance multiple concurrent tasks, responsibilities, and commitments
- Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several months away from the office
- Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders and work outside
Desired Skills/Experience:
- A Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering, structural engineering or a related field
- Prior internship or professional work in a related field (i.e. geotechnical engineering, construction, civil engineering, etc.)
Other Requirements:
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
