Job Description:Schnabel is actively seeking an experienced Lead Water Resources Dam Engineer to join our growing Water Practice in the Northeast Region. As an integral member of our team, you will leverage your professional experience and technical knowledge to support and lead a wide variety of water resources engineering projects that involve dams and reservoirs, flood resiliency, and general water infrastructures projects across the Northeast region and nationally. The role also involves project management, client interactions, as well as the supervision and mentorship of junior staff. We’re looking for a motivated candidate with keen eye for detail, a dedication to ongoing professional growth, and a passion for joining a collaborative, inclusive team working on complex projects at the forefront of our industry.  As an employee-owner, you will have a say in how our business operates and will benefit from our financial success through the allocation of company stock.Position Responsibilities: Candidate will serve as Lead Water Resources Dam Engineer for Schnabel’s Water Engineering Practice. Major focus areas for the role include:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to expand the water resources engineering practice within Schnabel’s Dams and Levees business line.
  • Serve as a Water Resources Engineering Lead and Project Manager on a variety of projects that include surface water hydrology and hydraulics, dams & levees, flood protection, as well as resiliency and climate change adaptation.
  • Responsibilities include the development and supervision of hydrologic and hydraulic models, climate risk and hazard analyses, as well as contributing to the planning and design of water resources projects.
  • Prepare and review water resources engineering reports, technical documents, and presentations for a variety of applications, projects, and clients.
  • Conduct inspections of existing hydraulic structures and perform dam safety reviews, ensuring compliance with current industry standards and design criteria.
  • Engage with clients and regulators, set clear project objectives for teams, and efficiently manage resources to ensure timely delivery, within budget, and meeting client performance expectations.
  • Promote the growth and mentorship of our junior water resources engineering team, both within our Jersey City office and across the firm.
  • Collaborate with the 50+ members of Schnabel’s Water Resources Technical Practice, comprised of professionals from multiple offices across the US, to deliver cutting-edge technical solutions to solve our client’s needs. 
  • Contribute to fostering a cohesive and positive culture within our Jersey City office and company-wide, aiming to create an environment that empowers our employees to reach their full potential and ensures we maintain a best-in-class workplace.
  • Contribute to maintaining and developing Schnabel’s strong brand and leadership position in the water engineering field through thought leadership embodied in published papers, white papers, collaboration with key partners and universities, and presentations at recognized conferences and workshops.

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree preferred) in Civil, Water Resources, and/or Coastal Engineering.
  • 8+ years of direct engineering consulting experience in the water resources and modeling fields with in-depth experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling concept and principles.
  • Experience with modeling tools and design software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-MetVue, HEC-DSS. LifeSim, HEC-FIA, DAMRAE, ArcGIS, AutoCAD/Civil 3D. Experience with 3-D numerical modeling a plus.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to become registered within 6 months.
  • Effective time management through balancing multiple concurrent tasks, responsibilities, and commitments.
  • Analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Organized, self-starter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Excellent English technical verbal and written communication skills.
